Grade: 44 Minimum Annual Starting Salary: $39,731

Duties: Assists Cultural Resources Manager or Program Manager in planning, organizing, coordinating, and administering activities of the Cultural Resources and Historic Preservation Office within Pima County. Typical job duties are likely to include, but are not limited to: 1) review of County public improvement project plans for potential impacts to cultural resources; 2) review of private sector land-use and development plans, rezonings, specific plans, and grading applications for potential impacts to cultural resources; 3) review of right-of-way use permits, cell tower installations, and other proposed uses of County lands; 4) review and comment of consultant reports concerning cultural resources inventory, assessment, determination of effect, and treatment plans; 5) updates to databases and preparation of reports and necessary correspondence; 6) consultation with the State Historic Preservation Office and other agencies as appropriate; 7) cultural resources project and contract oversight, preparation of scopes of work, schedules, and budget estimates; 8) liaison with other County departments, the public, other local governments, regulatory agencies, and tribal entities, as necessary; 9) records checks and field inventories for archaeological and historic properties on County acquisition parcels, and; 10) write and submit grant applications and prepare/review proposals; 11) other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in a program-related field (See below) and three years of experience coordinating, monitoring, and/or administering program activities. (Additional relevant education may substitute for one year of the aforementioned experience.) OR Seven years of experience in public administration, communications or management or in a field applicable to the program’s operation.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Knowledge and fieldwork experience in Southwestern archaeology, anthropology, history, historic preservation and cultural resource management.

2. Knowledge and experience in project review and compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations and consultation with the State Historic Preservation Office pertaining to the protection, preservation, and treatment of archaeological and historic sites and buildings.

3. Knowledge and experience in the methods, techniques and practices used to identify and evaluate archaeological and historic sites and to mitigate impacts to these cultural and historic properties.

4. Prior experience in compliance work related to a public agency in local, state, or federal government cultural resources management program.

5. Experience using written and oral communication skills.

This position is in the Cultural Resources Division of the Pima County Public Works Administration Department.
