Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) certification and a minimum of one year of Cancer Registry abstracting experience is required.
TheCancer Registry Abstractor is responsible for reviewing and analyzing patient data while maintaining patient confidentiality. Reviews medical records, abstracts and codes information, such as demographic characteristics, history and extent of disease, diagnostic procedures and treatment, and entering data into the Cancer Registry database. Contacts discharged patients, their families, and physicians to maintain registry with follow-up information, such as quality of life and length of survival of cancer patients. The Cancer Registry Abstractor works closely with physicians, hospital administrators, and health care practitioners to maintain ongoing records of the cancer patient's history, diagnosis, treatment, and outcome.
♦ Certification: Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) required
♦ A minimum of 3-5 year registry experience in case finding, abstracting, follow-up, Quality Assurance and
NAACCR/NCDB data edits.
♦ Experience with computerized registry systems required (ERS preferred)
♦ Experience with computer software applications (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint preferred)
♦ Familiar with all aspects of organizing a Cancer Conference
♦ Familiar with all aspects of organizing a Cancer Committee meeting
♦ Exceptional written/verbal communication skills and problem solving skills
♦ Possess a high degree of concentration and precision for detail
♦ Team member, able to work independently or with others
♦ Understands rules and regulations regarding privacy and confidentiality of patient information
♦ Knowledgeable of standards set forth by the American College of Surgeons (ACoS), Commission on Cancer (CoC)
