Title/Board Position:Assistant Coach

Description/Role:

Position mandatory requirements:

The assistant coach is responsible for support of all on ice activities of the team to include running practices, practice stations, dryland practices and discipline of players on the ice. In addition, they are a general resource for all on-ice and off-ice activity. Should know and understand MYHA, policies and contacts to direct association members.

Ongoing Responsibilities:

  1. Help communicate and enforce MYHA and Coaching Committee Policies:
  2. Locker Room supervision, Cell Phone, Bullying
  3. Parent/Coach expectation
  4. Parent/Coach/Referee Expectations
  5. Playoff and State Tournament Policy
  6. Handle skater specific matters privately.
  7. On Ice Coaching Requirements:
  8. Complete all necessary USA hockey registration
  9. Complete appropriate level certification by the deadlines.
  10. Complete age appropriate modules.
  11. Complete concussion training and protocols.
  12. Complete background screening
  13. Support of Head Coach & Team Manager:
  14. Attend team, parent and/or coaching team meetings.
  15. Support team goals, expectations and upcoming events.
  16. Help drive Individual skater performance.
  17. Escalation point for head coach, team manager or player to player issues.
  18. Lead practices and / or stations in the head coaches absence.
  19. Practice and Games:
  20. Be a positive role model to the players and respectful to referees.
  21. Responsible for practice plans, organization of practice and on ice activity.
  22. Coordinate with scheduler, team manager and parents on practice and game times if head coach is unavailable.
  23. Assist in selection of tournaments if requested.
  24. Work with home tournament coordinator as necessary.
  25. Enforce no parents in locker room 20 minutes prior to game or practice (Squirts and up).
  26. ADM Model:
  27. Understand and be supportive of the ADM module.
  28. Be aware of practice to game ratios for your level, number of tourneys, no hockey weekends etc. for your level.
  29. Follow ADM guidelines for practices and games.
  30. Any other duties as assigned by the MYHA Board, Coaching Committee or Head Coach.
  31. Assessment Hours: To obtain the 30 hours for this position you must meet the criteria above along with have good standing attendance at practices and games. In general, 75% of games and practices are required unless an excusable reason is agreed upon.
