WISH GRANTER

Rays of Sunshine Children’s Charity (Charity Registration No. 1102529) grants wishes to children who are living with a serious or life-limiting illness, between the ages of 3-18 from anywhere in the UK.

There are currently over 20 members of the Rays of Sunshine office team. The Charity also has a large active volunteer base, and at present the volunteer team is made up of over 40 people. In 2015, it is the Charity’s objective to turn 900 wishes into happy memories.

Reporting to the Operation Wish Manager, the role is based in the charity’s office in Wembley.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

  • Will have strong organisational skills, must be able to handle several projects at any one time& work calmly under pressure.
  • Will have strong oral and written communication skills in order to develop ROS’s relationships with key publics such as children, parents, medical personnel etc.
  • Must be caring, empathetic, and able to use their own initiative, be a good problem solver and above all be a good ambassador for the Charity.
  • Must have excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritise the daily/weekly workload and work to tight deadlines.
  • Must be methodical and show attention to detail.
  • Must have a good telephone manner, be diplomatic, patient and have an understanding of confidentiality and data protection requirements.
  • Must have strong IT skills and be proficient with Microsoft Office Word and Excel, and will ideally have database experience.
  • Will be able to work unsociable hours on occasions such as evening meetings/functions.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support and assist Volunteer Wish Co-ordinators.
  • Take on day wishes, UK Holiday and foreign travel wishes in addition to volunteer wishes.
  • Grant wishes on behalf of Rays of Sunshine to a high standard.
  • Maintain contact with wish familiesduring the lead up to and in the fulfilment of non-volunteer wishes.
  • Build & maintain relationships with other wish charities, medical personnel & suppliers and to nurture existing business contacts.
  • Regularly deal with members of the public, trustees, volunteers, the families of the children and professional advisers.
  • Prepare for & attend weekly wish appeals meetings and action any points as directed by the Wish Managers.
  • Ensure the correct travel insurance is arranged and medical information is received on all foreign travel wishes.
  • Ensure wishes take place within a reasonable timescale and all aspects are properly organised.
  • Maintain all financial records of the Wishes.
  • Administer the payment of the Wishes.
  • Maintain all wish files, both electronic and hard copy.
  • Give copy of feedback to the Hospital Liaison Executive.
  • Send out thank you letters, photos, etc.
  • Close files.

The starting salary offered is circa £20,000. Holiday entitlement is 20 days per annum and there is a 3 months probationary period. Working hours will be 9:30am to 5:30pm. This will be a fixed term contract for 1 year.

In the event of the applicant being offered a position, a criminal record check will be requested. Rays of Sunshine fully complies with the Criminal Record Bureau's code of practice, a copy of which is available on request or from our website. With some exceptions, having a criminal record will not necessarily bar an individual from working with the charity. We have a policy on the recruitment of ex-offenders which we wouldinstigate at a later stage in the processshould an application be progressed.The policy is also available on request.
