Title: Anti-trafficking Programme Officer

Department: Oasis Bangladesh, Community Programmes

Responsible to: Oasis Bangladesh Community Programmes Director

Responsible for: nil at first

Hours: 40 hours per week, including breaks, the breakdown of these hours to be by agreement with line manager.

Purpose of the role: A key role in Oasis Bangladesh’s Anti-human trafficking programme facilitating the repatriation of trafficking survivors, implementing STOP THE TRAFFIK initiatives and conducting research to inform further projects.

Location: Dhaka, Bangladesh with some trips to Nilphamari (Northern Bangladesh)

Main duties and responsibilities:

Oasis Anti-trafficking Programme

·  Co-ordinate the repatriation of trafficking survivors from India to Bangladesh by liaising with referral agencies in India and grass-roots NGOs in Bangladesh, requesting home studies and repatriation orders, updating the case management records, keeping track of cases and following-up.

·  Ensure appropriate care plans are in place for each survivor on their return, in line with the survivor’s wishes and best practice in standards of care. Follow-up cases to see how long-term support can be provided as appropriate.

·  Conduct research and report on human-trafficking issues. Assist in planning and implementing further projects as informed by research e.g. issues related to trafficking of boys, prevention and after-care facilities for them.

STOP THE TRAFFIK

·  Implement STOP THE TRAFFIK initiatives in Bangladesh, tailoring projects and materials to suit the local context. This may include START FREEDOM, which raises awareness amongst high-school aged children; student forums; “Business Travellers” and ACT groups (Active Communities against Trafficking) which empower people to combat trafficking in their local communities.

·  Facilitate communication between STOP THE TRAFFIK Bangladesh member organisations, organise meetings, provide administrative support, arrange training and production of campaign materials

·  Liaise with STT offices in London and other locations, as well as local schools, universities, NGOs and officials in Bangladesh; network with other agencies involved in anti-trafficking in the South Asia region

Oasis Transformation Limited (OTL)

·  Undertake a part-time role in Oasis Transformation Limited (OTL) - our fair trade manufacturing which provides employment in a location where there is high risk of trafficking. This could involve monitoring and ensuring compliance of fair trade regulations and corporate social responsibility.

·  Be a key player in the wider team developing business and community initiatives working with vulnerable and marginalized groups.

General:

·  To carry out other tasks relating to the job description as may be reasonably required

·  When possible to take the initiative to fundraise for Oasis

·  Participate in the corporate life of Oasis e.g. staff meetings, training events, prayer meetings, whenever possible

·  Perform any other duties as reasonably requested by line-manager

·  To be willing to serve as and when required and requested beyond the specified scope of duty

Job knowledge / ·  Appreciation of global human-trafficking issues and a basic understanding of causes and consequences of trafficking
·  Proven ability to undertake research, quickly assimilate information, network with others and get up-to-speed on a particular issue so as to contribute to that area of work / ·  Deeper understanding of human-trafficking issues obtained through formal study or work-related experience
·  Relevant Professional Qualification e.g. Law or law enforcement; Social Work; Social Research; Psychology; Development Studies or other relevant Social Science.
Experience / ·  A minimum of 2 years work experience involving administration, interpersonal interaction, teamwork and taking responsibility
·  Exposure to a cross-cultural working environment / ·  Planned and implemented projects and supervised staff
·  Worked or volunteered in community initiatives
·  Experience of living and working in a South Asian context
Skills / ·  Good administrative and organizational skills
