Tips for a Successful Block Party

TIP #1-- GET EVERYONE INVOLVED!

Ask your neighbors to join in on the Planning.

  • They will provide great suggestions for the Block Party
  • Help get the word out on the block
  • Build up interest by handing out flyers
  • Help get the Block Party set up

TIP #2 -- GET THE WORD OUT EARLY

  • Advertise early and often
  • Give your neighbors two months notice so they can schedule their activities around this date

TIP #3 -- TELL YOUR NEIGHBORS WHAT ACTIVITIES ARE PLANNED!

This will make it exciting and spark their interest

  • Include this information on the flyer
  • Free Food
  • Face Painting
  • Bicycle Rodeo
  • Sidewalk Chalk Painting
  • Raffles

TIP #4 -- INVITE THE POLICE, CITY COUNCIL AND FIREFIGHTERS

  • Invite important people to your block party
  • Give them a chance to provide handouts for your block
  • This may be a great opportunity to start a Neighborhood Watch Group

TIP #5 -- GET YOUR BLOCK TO CREATE A BLOCK MAP!

  • Make a master copy of your block map for everyone on your block so they can keep in touch
  • Find out about the hidden talents and resources of the neighbors on your block

BLOCK PARTY

Block partiesare designed to meet your neighbors, build community spirit and cohesiveness. A block party is a wonderful way to create relationships with your neighbors and create a stronger-knit community. The Community Services Department is happy to assist you in this endeavor.

The program is not intended for private parties exclusive of neighboring residents.

CRITERIA FOR APPROVAL

Applicant is responsible to remove all trash and debris and restore right-of-way to original state.

If a public street will have access closed, barricade use is mandatory, and must be arranged by the applicant.

Residents must be allowed vehicle access to their homes and emergency access must be allowed on barricaded streets.

As a coordinator of this event, you must agree to the following conditions:

  • Alcohol sale not allowed/consumption discouraged
  • Time of day hours – 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
  • Noise ordinance conformity / Noise Variation Available
  • Fireworks – NO ILLEGAL FIREWORKS ALLOWED

Street barricades and notifications are completed by the City of Happy Valley
