AN INVITATION

Wirral Green Alliance was formed in 1985 as an umbrella organisation representing the non-party political aspirations of the Green Movement in Wirral and the surrounding area. Later renamed Wirral Environmental Network, it combined with Wirral Local Agenda 21 Forum in December 2005 to form Wirral LA21 Network, the largest voluntary environmental group in Wirral. Some confusion over the term “LA21” prompted us to revert to Wirral Environmental Network in 2009. Our membership includes a wide range of individuals, campaigning groups, community groups, schools and Green businesses, all working individually and together for a better world.

Wirral Environmental Network does not seek to effect change via the ballot box. We believe that the severe limitations of our political system mean that changes needed to secure a sustainable future for our children, and for the planet, are likely to come too late. Although climate change has been upon us for many years, our politicians and world leaders are only just beginning to recognise the problem – yet they still are impotent. Instead, we believe that the transformation in understanding that is needed is more likely to be achieved by informing, advising, and encouraging people to take charge of their own lives. As an environmental education Charity, we seek to motivate people to make the changes that will lead to sustainable lifestyles, and to a better world.

Together with Green organisations throughout the country, we believe we are a potent catalyst for change. But this change will not happen automatically. We need people from all walks of life to join us. We can all see the problems planet Earth is facing, so we shouldn’t need much persuading. This is important work, and it is very rewarding. Our children, and their children, will not look back kindly on us if we let them down.

Our newsletter, “Wirral Evergreen”, is distributed throughout Wirral. We operate from the Wirral Environment Centre in Wallasey, where we offer advice on environmental issues and all aspects of sustainable lifestyles. We have regular meetings for members, and we also organise public lectures and events to publicise particular environmental issues. Energy Projects Plus, our Energy Efficiency Advice Centre, provides free advice on all aspects of energy use, and the Oxton Green Community Centre provides support in the local community. We also have a Time Capsule project at Ness Gardens where each summer we re-affirm a pledge to work for a better future for our children. Each of these independent organisations was originally set up as a project of Wirral Green Alliance, and others will follow..

Wirral Environmental Network is held in high esteem. Your support, and any help you can give, will be widely appreciated and respected. Attached are our Aims and Objectives and a membership application form.

So please join us today. Together, we can make a difference.
