- Lead investigator for Cochrane Systematic Review title “Processed versus fresh frozen bone for impaction bone grafting in revision hip arthroplasty.”
- Outcome analysis of Charnley Elite total hip arthroplasty. Retrospective clinical and radiographic review of 616 hips at a mean 8 year follow-up. Supervisor: Mr Martyn Porter.
- Outcome analysis of Birmingham Hip Resurfacing. Retrospective clinical and radiographic review of 400 hips at 4 years. Supervisor: Mr Martyn Porter.
- Independant review of 218 revision hips using the KAR stem at 10 years follow-up. This is an invited collaborative project with the ARTRO group in Annecy, France.
- “Effect of segmental defects on the stability of impaction grafted acetabular reconstructions” In-vitro biomechanical study funded by R&D, Wrightington.
- “Importance and frequency of wound discharge and leg swelling following prolonged low molecular weight heparin thromboprophylaxis in hip and knee arthroplasty”. A prospective trial in the design stages.
- “Randomised controlled trial of oral thrombin inhibitor vs. LMWH for thromboprophylaxis after total hip and knee arthroplasty” Phase IV clinical trial in design stage.
- “Stability of Reference Marker Arrays in Computer Aided Orthopaedic Surgery”. Two research projects investigating the effects of soft tissue tension and array design on the stability of RMs in COAS. Collaborative research with Hanover Medical School, Germany.

- MSc “Experimental analysis of the stress distribution at the wire-bone interface in external fixators (Supervisor Professor M Saleh, University of Sheffield)
- “Prediction of urinary cathterisation following hip and knee arthroplasty” We investigated the relationship between urological scoring systems and cathetertisation rate following arthroplasty. (Blackburn)
- “Core temperature during arthroscopic shoulder surgery” This prospective study investigated the relationship of core temperature to the temperature of irrigation fluid used during arthroscopic shoulder surgery. (Blackburn)
- “Efficacy of lumbar facet joint injections for lumbar back pain” This was a prospective study performed at Fairfield hospital for 12 months. The results have been presented at a national meeting.
- Hospital coordinator for the PEP trial. This multicentre RCT investigated the efficacy of aspirin in thromboprophylaxis after fractured neck of femur.
