TIMELINE FOR THE APPLICATION PROCESS.

Date. / Task/event. / Student action.
Dec/Jan of premiere year. / -Information evening for all concerned. / Use information to define range of course interests and opportunities. Talk to all teachers to find out strengths in subjects. Look at ucas.com and find out where you could do the courses which interest you. Fill in questionnaire in preparation for your counseling session. Make realistic but ambitious decisions about courses and their entry requirements. (Jan to end of school year).
February to April. / -Interview/counseling session with Mr. Ackroyd/Ms Woodburn. Discussion of courses, questionnaire and grades over past two and a half years. Students must bring questionnaire filled out to this, all reports from 3eme to present moment and all other evidence of achievement. / After this interview, students will be given a plan of action based on projected bac scores, entry requirements for courses which interest them and targets for performance in their studies for 1ere and T’le. Visits to universities may be recommended and should be arranged as soon as possible by parents. Email contact with course tutors can be made so that students get themselves known and can find out more about what interests them. Ensure you have all details of any additional entrance tests which might be required.
May to September. / -Securing application dossier on ucas website, using Lycee buzzword. Having a first draft of application complete by the 14th September. Significant deadline: all Oxbridge, medical and veterinary applications should be completed by 28thSeptember. This gives time for reference writing which is based on presented evidence. / Use website and continue contact with universities. Make sure you know what the range of possible courses your potential qualifications give you access to so that you do not regret lack of research at a later date. Draft, draft and re-draft your personal statement so that it is in good shape for teacher editing by 1st September. REFERENCES ARE WRITTEN ON THE BASIS OF ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE IN PREMIERE SO YOUR LEVEL OF EFFORT IN SCHOOL MUST REFLECT YOUR AMBITIONS.
September to December. Tle year. / -Reference writing and applications sent off. We stick to ucas deadline of 15th Jan but you will be pushed to complete by Dec 1st at the latest. The earlier an application is completed, the better, especially for top courses.Attend Tle meeting to report on application progress. / WORK HARD TO COMPLETE APPLICATIONS TO GIVE SELVES BEST POSSIBLE CHANCE;
November to March. / -Offers made by universities. / Students decide on preferred and insurance offer.
March to end of year. / -If no offers, student makes contact with other universities and can re-apply.
End of June. / -Results. / Places taken up or student negotiates places at universities not originally applied for.
