APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

• The Application Form is the form provided below together with Working Plan form as a table where Activities on board must be completed in all its sections and uploaded to the online application site contest as a pdf file format. These are the files 1 and 2 respectively of the online application.

• Additionally, this application must include the Route (s) required for the project which should be indicated by a fine-tipped pen (pen or ink) in printed copies of Road Maps prepared for that purpose in the contest site or by providing in an independent file the route in a Google Earth –type map . Whichever format used to indicate the required route this has to be upload to the online system as a pdf file. Route maps wil be file 3, 4, format to be uploaded online. Many maps should be used as the route requires. Each file should be constituted by a single map at a time. Uploaded many files as many maps are required. These files correspond to the files 4, 5, 6, etc. of the online application.

• The specific requirements of the equipment provided by the vessel must be included among those listed in the document called VESSEL FACILITIES provided on the contest website. This document is also available on the website of CONA ( The equipment not included in the vessel and necessary for the activities shall be provided by the project and clearly indicated in the application form because otherwise they will not be allowed on board.

B) Application- Proposal

1. Proposal to carry out on board the Vessel. Indicateall the objectives to meet and their strict relationship with the Host project (s). Indicate the scientific relevance of this proposal, how and whichproblems of global and /or local importance will be resolved if it is carried out, which progress and results may be used to develop existing international agreements or the resolution and progress of national issues. Any area in which this proposal could have an expected impact should be mentioned here. Describe here the activities that will be undertaken to fulfill the objectives, their methodology and the justification of the use of the vessel Cabo de Hornos (versus other platforms) to carry out this proposal.

Use up to 5 pages for this purpose.

2. Personnel Involved

Here you should include all the participating people in the activities on board specifying their category and functions. All research staff in those categories that are not undergraduate students and technicians should have entered and validated their CV on thePortal del Investigador( at the closure of this contest. Staff experience in similar initiatives, activities on small or larger scale ships(national and international, capabilities in the use of the facilities of Cape Horn, etc.) should be mentioned here. Remember that the Route Allocation Committee reserves the right to adjust the number of people to embark in case of excessive demand.

C) Application-Requirements

1. WorkingPlan (Gantt chart). Use the attached form to indicate the activities and times required for each.

2. Route(s)required. Explicite the required routes (provide alternatives where possible). Georeferenced routes and indicated according to the instructions in the Road Maps. Specify detentions and places of sampling. (Refer to the Gantt chart already completed).

3. Specify the specific requirements for your activities. Indicate the vessel´s equipment that will be required (To answer this section you should use the information provided in the document VESSEL FACILITIES provided on the contest site and on the website of CONA).

Keep in mind the provisions of Article 8.4 of the Specific Agreement of Cooperation between the Chilean Navy and CONICYT. Remember that the Route Allocation Committee reserves the right to adjust the port (s) of embarkment and disembarkment, depending on the determined final route.
