1.5   INFORMATIONAL SUBMITTALS

1.5.1   Field quality-control reports.

1.6   QUALITY ASSURANCE

1.6.1   Manufacturer Qualifications: Minimum 5 year experience manufacturing similar products.

1.6.2   Installer Qualifications: Minimum 2 year experience installing similar products.

1.6.2.1   Use qualified workers thoroughly skilled and experienced in current ANSI A108 standards, Tile Council of North America (TCNA) recommendations and applicable building codes.

1.6.3   Product Qualifications:

1.6.3.1   Bonded membranes shall comply with ICC-ES report PMG 1059 and IAPMO File# 4339.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Include a mock-up if the project size and/or quality warrant taking such a precaution. The following is one example of how a mock-up on a large project might be specified. When deciding on the extent of the mock-up, consider all the major different types of work on the project.

1.6.4   Mock-Up: Provide a mock-up for evaluation of surface preparation techniques and application workmanship.

1.6.4.1   Finish areas designated by Architect.

1.6.4.2   Do not proceed with remaining work until workmanship is approved by Architect.

1.6.4.3   Refinish mock-up area as required to produce acceptable work.

1.7   PRE-INSTALLATION MEETINGS

1.7.1   Convene minimum two weeks prior to starting work of this section.

1.8   DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

1.8.1   Deliver and store products in manufacturer's unopened packaging bearing the brand name and manufacturer's identification until ready for installation.

1.8.2   Store liquid materials in unopened containers and protected from freezing.

1.8.3   Handling: Handle materials to avoid damage.

1.9   PROJECT CONDITIONS

1.9.1   Environmental Limitations: Do not install products until construction in spaces is complete and ambient temperature and humidity conditions are maintained at the levels indicated in reference standards and manufacturer's written instructions.

1.10   SEQUENCING

1.10.1   Ensure that products of this section are supplied to affected trades in time to prevent interruption of construction progress.

1.11   WARRANTY

1.11.1   Warranty: Manufacturer's standard material warranty.

2 PRODUCTS

2.1   MANUFACTURERS

2.1.2   Substitutions: Not permitted.

2.1.3   Requests for substitutions will be considered in accordance with provisions of Section 01 60 00 - Product Requirements.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** NobleSeal CIS can be installed over the entire floor (Full Coverage) or over movement joints or cracks on floor substrates on-grade, below grade and above grade for tile and dimension stone installations.
Partial Coverage: When NobleSeal CIS sheet membrane is used over cracks or control joints in concrete, use a width of membrane equal to three times the size of the tile.
Full Coverage Floors: NobleSeal CIS sheet membrane may be installed for crack isolation and waterproofing on floor substrates under all tiles.
Acceptable Floor Substrates: Concrete, primed gypsum underlayment, suitable plywood, tile backer board, radiantly heated floors, terrazzo, mortar beds.
Acceptable Backer Boards: Cementitious backer board, glass mat water-resistant gypsum board, fiber-cement backer board, fiber-reinforced water-resistant gypsum backer board, cementitious coated extruded foam backer board in accordance with TCNA Handbook. Delete if not required.

2.2   SHEET MEMBRANE CRACK ISOLATION/JOINT BRIDGING AND WATERPROOFING

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Ceramic tile flooring systems with NobleSeal CIS are rated for "Extra Heavy" defined by the TCNA Handbook by passing all 14 cycles when tested by ASTM C627 - Standard Test Method for Evaluating Ceramic Floor Tile Installation Systems Using the Robinson-Type Floor Tester.

2.2.1   Basis of Design Product: NobleSeal CIS as manufactured by the Noble Co.

2.2.2   Performance:

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Include the performance measurement from the Crack Isolation Standard, ANSI A118.12, for flooring applications.

2.2.2.1   Crack Isolation/Joint Bridging: "High Performance" rating in the "System Crack Resistance" portion of ANSI A118.12.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Include waterproofing for full coverage flooring applications.

2.2.2.2   Waterproofing: ANSI A118.10.

2.2.3   Accessories:

2.2.3.1   Bonding Mortar:

2.2.3.2   Bonding Adhesive: Type recommended by sheet membrane manufacturer to suit application with VOC less than LEED allowable limits.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Include one or both of the following paragraphs for interior locations. NobleBond EXT is suitable for horizontal, vertical and wet area applications. NobleBond 21 is suitable for horizontal applications in non wet areas.

2.2.3.3   Seam Sealant: Waterproof type recommended by sheet membrane manufacturer with VOC less than LEED allowable limits - 250 grams/liter.

2.2.3.4   Perimeter Sealant: ASTM C 920, construction sealant, type recommended by sheet membrane manufacturer with VOC less than LEED allowable limits.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Typical Floors and Walls: Chloraloy sheet membrane may be installed for waterproofing on floor and wall substrates for tile and dimension stone installation. Delete if not required.

2.3   SHEET MEMBRANE WATERPROOFING

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Include option IAPMO for use with UPC.

2.3.1   Sheet Membrane: ASTM D 4068, sheet membrane made from an alloy of non-plasticized chlorinated polyethylene (CPE) listed by IAPMO (UPC #4036)

2.3.1.1   Basis of Design Product: Chloraloy as manufactured by Noble Company.

2.3.1.2   Performance:

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Include Pro Slope with weep hole protector in shower receptor applications to create proper slope and keep weep holes open.

2.3.2   Sloping Materials: Use a sloped fill or a composite made from expanded polystyrene with reinforced fiber cutting template on one side, tapered to 1/4 inch per foot (20.8 mm/m) slope with weep hole protector.

2.3.2.1   Basis of Design Product: Pro-Slope.

2.3.2.2   Performance:

2.3.3   Weep Protector: Positive Weep Protector (U.S. Patent #5,022,430), clear rigid PVC, 0.20 inch (5 mm) thick.

2.3.3.1   Basis of Design Product: Positive Weep Protector.

2.3.4   Accessories:

2.3.4.2   Seam Sealant: Type recommended by sheet membrane manufacturer with VOC less than LEED allowable limits.

2.4   SHEET MEMBRANE WATERPROOFING AND CRACK ISOLATION

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** NobleSeal TS is rated "Extra Heavy Duty" when tested with ceramic tile to ASTM C 627, Standard Test Method for Evaluating Ceramic Floor Tile Installation Systems Using the Robinson-Type Floor Tester.

2.4.1   Sheet Membrane: ANSI A118.10; composite sheet membrane made from an alloy of non-plasticized chlorinated polyethylene (CPE) with non woven fiber laminated to both sides.

2.4.1.1   Basis of Design Product: NobleSeal TS as manufactured by Noble Company.

2.4.2   Application:

2.4.2.1   Sheet membrane waterproofing for tile and dimension stone installations.

2.4.2.2   Sheet membrane waterproofing and water vapor retarder for tile and dimension stone installations.

2.4.3   Performance:

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Include water vapor permeance for steam room applications. ASTM E96/E96M, Procedure E uses the desiccant method at high temperature 100 degree F (37.8 degree C).

2.4.3.1   Water Vapor Permeance: ASTM ASTM E 96/E96M, Procedure E; maximum 0.15 perms (28.6 ng/Pasm2).

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Include crack isolation for flooring applications. Available ratings are standard performance and high performance based on crack bridging capability.
