DENVER BRONCOS QUOTES (6/6/17)

TIGHT END JEFF HEUERMAN

On TE Jake Butt

“We definitely had some good bets going on in the tight end room. He’s a good player and we’re excited to have him. I think he can help once his knee gets healthy and he can get back out there.”

On moving past his ACL injury

“It was not fun, but that was two years ago. I put that in the past. I’m excited for this coming year. This offense is a lot of fun to play in. The tight ends do a lot of fun things and make a lot of plays. I’m excited.”

On where tight ends fit into the Offensive Coordinator Mike McCoy’s offense

“I think it fits great. Like I said, he allows the tight ends to do a lot of fun things, different types of blocks and a lot of different types of routes. There’s motions all over the place. It’s good. It’s definitely going to be fun to get out there this season and really get in the groove with this offense and get moving on it.”

On the chemistry the offense is building

“I think it’s good. We’ve been throwing a lot since we got here in April. We’re two months into this. A lot of the timing routes are coming together. You can start to see it out there. Every day you can see the offense getting into more of a groove and getting more of a feel for the offense and plays and how we’re calling things, as well as the motions and who’s running what. It’s really good.”

On his health and his performance at the end of last season

“This is the best I’ve felt in years. Even before I came into the NFL. The strength staff is doing a great job with us here. It’s been that, and making some plays at the end of last year and getting a little film. When you can watch and go back and evaluate yourself, it’s helpful as well. You just have to carry over and keep going and learning the offense. It’ll be a good year.”

On specific things he is doing with the training and strength staff this offseason

“A lot of things. You have a minute? They’ve done a great job in the training room. Being back at Ohio State this offseason, getting back in a routine there with the trainers and stuff there that knew me for four years there, it’s been a good offseason. It’s fun learning this new offense and getting out there and learning all the new plays. It’s been good.”

On whether retuning to Ohio State made him feel like a college student again

“No, not quite. I was living with my girlfriend there and it was a lot different than college. College days are back there for a reason.”

On what he’s changed about the way he trains

“I’ve done a lot of stuff. The way you train when you’re 18, 19, 20 years old has got to change when you get to 24 or 25. I’m adjusting to that. Also, just knowing my body. I think after knee surgery like that, your body changes a little bit. You kind of just have to figure it out and get going from there. Like I said, I feel great. It’s been a good start to the new offense and OTAs. I’m going to finish strong and finish the minicamp strong next week and have a couple weeks off before we start camp.”

On whether he listens to negativity

“I honestly don’t pay a whole lot of attention to it. I have my close knit group of people that I listen to, talk to and deal with. I just come in and work hard every day. Be a good person and good things are going to happen to you. That’s kind of how I was raised in sports. That’s just what I’m doing. It will all work out here.”

On what he has left to prove

“Having knee surgery your rookie year, then coming back last year and being banged up, obviously, there is a lot that I need to get out there and want to show. It’s going to be a good year. This offense is fun. It allows guys to play football. I’m just excited about that.”
