Purpose of the Texas All State Forensic Squad:

The purpose of the Texas All State Forensic Squad is to provide recognition of those students who have excelled in Forensics (in Individual Events, Debate, or both) at either the 2-year or 4-year level while maintaining high levels of academic achievement and who are recognized as exhibiting strong character and leadership skills.

Criteria for Selection:

The selection committee, appointed by the TIFA president, will evaluate the following items:

• GPA • Transcripts• Recommendation of Director/Coach

• Statement from the Student• Competitive Success (e.g. number of finals, qualified events, win/loss

percentage in debate)

Eligibility:

To be eligible, the student must have qualified for a minimum of three final rounds in Individual Events competition or have a 60% Win-Loss percentage for Debate or advanced to elimination rounds at three tournaments. The student must have competed in both the Fall and Spring semesters in the year for which he/she had been nominated. A minimum of three tournaments per semester (these may include future participation in Spring semester) is required for IE competitors and an overall minimum of four tournaments is required for debaters, with at least one of those debate tournaments occurring in the Fall semester.

Members of the Texas All State Forensic Squad will be selected from among the eligible students nominated. A director/coach may nominate as many students from his/her squad as is deemed appropriate, however no more than four (4) students per school will be named to the All State Squad each academic year. 2-year and 4 year nominees will be considered separately.

Note #1: For Individual Event competitors, only count semesters where the student competed in three or more tournaments. AFA allows 8 blocks / semesters of eligibility.
