Dinner Dance !!!

Saturday 25th October 2008

Finavon, near Brechin

The big news for this issue is that the committeehave decided to organise a Dinner Dance this year. It’s a chance to clean yourselves up and see if anyone will recognize you without your horsey clothes on!!!

But seriously, it should be good fun and hopefully raise a bit of money for the club too.

Tickets are £25 each which includes a three course dinner, tables of ten are planned. Tickets are available now. Given this is a new idea if you intend going then please buy your tickets by the end of August so the committee have a fair idea of numbers by then.

Tickets available from Ashley Patullo01575-57563

Talk & Slide Show & Silent Auction

Friday, 28th March 2008

There was a poor attendance at this evening which was very disappointing for the committee as Robert Mcfadzean provided an excellent talk which was very interesting. £110 was raised from the Silent Auction which was great given the low attendance, thanks to all the members who donated items. Some items were held back for future fund raising such as lessons from Ron Brady and Douglas Duffin and the opportunity to get your lorry weighed. The money raised was split between the ILPH and the Mark Davies Injured Riders Fund.

The attendance makes the committee reluctant to organize other similar evenings unless there is some support from the membership. We would be interested to know if there are any non riding evenings you are interested in or are these type of evenings not of interest at all.

Team Showjumping Competition

There were less entries than the previous team jumping but the day ran well and raised a bit of the money for the club. The competition ran in the IndoorSchool as the surface wasn’t quite ready to jump on.

Showing Etiquette Night

Very popular night with about 50 people attending including non- members. Loraine, Hamish and Maggie dispensed lots of information and tips on showing horses and ponies in various classes. Thanks to them and all the guinea pigs who managed to look very smart on a fairly cold evening.

Spring Show19th April

Dressage Derby27th April

Both of these competitions went well with the jumping nearly raising as much money as we used to at Conchies- we think the word is spreading about the new venue and hope that the same numbers come to the Autumn SJ on the 20thSeptember which will of course include Derby Classes.

Dressage Day was not as well attended but it was a lovely day and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. Lee Wright, Lizzie Foote ,Morag Thomson and Suzanne Cargill qualified for the Dressage Championship but Suzanne had a broken finger so everyone kindly agreed to postpone the Championship until her finger is better. It is now planned for the 17th June if anyone wants to come and watch. The Championship involves each rider riding a test on their own and then the other three horses. There is a cup for the best horse and best rider.

AreaQualifiers

The committee decided not to issue team sheets this year as they were proving unpopular. Instead it was agreed to have a team night at the field on the same night as the original dressage championship date on the 1st May. Because this decision was taken after the last Penthorse, the night was mentioned in the advert in the Courier for the Spring SJ show, on the website, posters were up at the Spring SJ show and everyone on the e-mail list was sent a notice as well.

Only four non-committee members turned up on the night with other members sending their apologies but indicating what they would want to do. Given this was the first year the committee decided to hold a team night then attendance on the night was not essential to be selected but in the future members will be given more notice and will be expected to attend if they want to compete.

The main reason for the team night is to cut back on the admin of teams which is quite onerous on the committee member involved, answering various queries and obtaining all the necessary information and payments. It is hope that this could all be done on the team nights in the future.

The entries are in for the Area Qualifier Competition hosted by North East Fife at Balcormo, Fife on the 31st May & 1st June. There are no qualifying entries and only ten members taking part over the two days.

The Horse Trials entry hasn’t been received yet but about a dozen members have expressed an interest and Suzanne will be in touch with them once the entry forms have been received. It will be at Auchlishie on the 5th July run by an Area 22 liaison sub-committee. If anyone else is interested then they need to let Suzanne know asap.

Website – Volunteer Sought!

Lauren Webster has been looking after the website for the last couple of years but pressures of studies has meant she has decided to resign from the position of webmaster. The committee would like to thank Lauren for all her hard work on the website.

However it means that we are looking for a volunteer who may be able to replace Lauren. If anyone is remotely interested then please contact Donna (01250-876518) for more information.

Area Camp

The camp was onFriday 9th-12th May at BrechinCastle and was a great success; there was a good contingent from SDRC. Ernst Dillon was well received so the committee are going to investigate the cost and possible dates for same training for members. More info will followin due course.

Helpers Needed!!

Debbie has agreed to keep a book of helpers to which the committee can refer to get help for each event. Nearer the event we can phone those who have volunteered with specific details.

If members want the committee to continue to organize the current high number of events then more help is needed. Please give Debbie a call and let her know how you can help.

And Finally!!!

New flushing loo at Club Field!

The committee are pleased to announce that there is now a proper flushing loo available at the club field for club use. As you come down the lane to the farm its in the little bothy on the right hand side, same side as the farm house.

MINI DRESSAGE LEAGUE

The Club will once again be holding a Mini Dressage League as it has proved very popular. These competitions are aimed at those just starting out with baby horses and/or novice riders. These will be held at South Leckaway on 12th June, 10th July and 14th August. They start at 6.30pm and cost £4 per class. The next two competitions will use Walk Trot Tests 1 and 2 and the last competition on 14th August will use Walk Trot Test 3 and Prelim 4. Prelim 4 is quite a straightforward test with a little canter work. However, competitors should not feel they have to canter. The aim of these competition is to give riders and horses a feel of a competition environment without any of the pressure. Competitors should be correctly dressed although this is quite an informal and relaxed affair. Entries are taken on the night but it would be helpful if you intend coming to let Ali or Donna know.
