TI-UK DEFENCE AND SECURITY programme INTERNSHIP (3 MONTHS UNPAID)

ORGANISATION DESCRIPTION

Transparency International (TI) is the civil society organisation leading the global fight against corruption. Through more than 90 national chapters worldwide and an international secretariat in Berlin, Germany, TI raises awareness of the damaging effects of corruption, and works with partners in government, business, and civil society to develop and implement effective measures to tackle it.

TI-DSP, a TI programme led by the UK chapter, is dedicated to fighting corruption in the defence and security sector globally. TI-DSP works with governments, defence companies, multilateral organisations, and civil society to build anti-corruption capacity and integrity in defence establishments across the world.

THE ROLES

We are looking for 3 interns for placements of up to 3 months to work on the Government Defence Anti-Corruption Index (GI) and the Companies Defence Anti-Corruption Index (CI) ( .The internships will be divided as follows:

  • 1 GI intern
  • 1 CI intern
  • 1 intern for 50% GI, 50% CI

These roles are excellent opportunities to work on dynamic and hands-on projects that involve carrying out and dealing with original research, innovative methodologies, and both qualitative and quantitative analysis. It may involve exposure to external researchers and peer reviewers, government and / or defence company officials.

Other responsibilities will include editing and standardising research, analysing data and providing administrative assistance. You may also have the opportunity to get involved in other tasks that interest you, such as communications and research.

Applications are welcome from those with the required skills and experience. These will include:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline
  • Interest in issues of transparency, accountability, and anti-corruption
  • Fluency in English and ability to edit and simplify complicated text
  • A good level of numeracy, including familiarity with basic statistics
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office
  • The ability to read Russian is preferred for the CI role

No prior work experience is necessary – this is an excellent opportunity to gain exposure to the work of a dynamic and hands on anti-corruption organization, interacting with senior staff members.

The Internship is an unpaid position, although the costs of daily travel up to a maximum of £40 per week (equivalent totravel to and from our office from London Transport zones 1, 2 and 3) and lunch up to a maximum of £5 per day will be reimbursed.

AVAILABILITY AND WORK LOCATION

Applicants should be available to work from the beginning of July for a 3 month period (until end of September). The position is based in our London office, but applicants are required to use their own laptops for the work. They should feel comfortable bringing their laptop to the office each day, or storing it in a locked cupboard in the office after work hours.
On occasion, applicants may be required to work off-site,for example at home or in a university library.
