Feedback of Global Road Safety Partnership Asia Seminar 2-3 April 2013, and 6th iRAP Asia Pacific Workshop 4 April 2013 held at Manila, Philippines

I was invited by iRAP to attend the GRSP Asia Seminar and 6th iRAP Asia Pacific Workshop on 2-4 April 2013 held at Manila, Philippines. As currently I’m working with iRAP as Road Safety Engineer for iRAP India Phase-2 project, this seminar and workshop gave me exposure to the road safety issues in other developing countries and opportunity to interact with global road safety practitioners.

Through the iRAP workshop,

·  I shared my experiences in undertaking iRAP assessments and also learnt from experience of other road safety practitioners,

·  Learnt about the new online training platform RAP Capacity, and innovative data collection and analysis techniques, and

·  I received the latest information on infrastructure safety techniques.

I made two presentations, one in the GRSP Seminar and one in the iRAP workshop. My first presentation (in the seminar) was on ‘Effective Safety Treatments for Pedestrians in Urban Area’ where I presented few simple but effective engineering treatments which may be applied in urban area to improve safety for vulnerable road users including pedestrians. My second presentation (in the workshop) was on Case Study of Star Rating the Design of NH-1 (Delhi Border-Panipat) and State Highways from the current project in which I’m working. Both the presentations were very well received by the audience and appreciated by the organizers.

The ‘2012 iRAP Asia Pacific Star Performer Award’ was given to the Karnataka State Highway Improvement Program (KSHIP) and the World Bank for demonstration corridors which are being designed and built with minimum 3-star safety ratings for all road users. It was a matter of honour for me as I received the award on behalf of the KSHIP and WB officials from India.
