The Cliff Dwellers was founded in 1907 as a private club for artists and patrons of the arts. It has occupied its current location since 1996 and remains a meeting place for those interested in the artistic and cultural life of the city. Over the years, the Cliff Dwellers has had many well-known architects, painters, sculptors, writers and musicians as members and it was recently named Chicago’s space that is “Best for networking” by Crain’s Chicago Business in their February 3, 2014 issue. Trial Membership in The Cliff Dwellers typically lasts for three months from the time that the trial begins and entitles the trial member to full access to Club programs and dining privileges.
DINING
The Cliff Dwellers club is open to members and guests for dinner Monday through Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 (last orders taken). Lunch hours are 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM Monday through Saturday. The Members’ Table is open seating every day for lunch. Members gather with an ever-changing group of fellow members for interesting and lively conversation on a broad range of topics. Private tables can also be reserved. Bar service: Members can take in the incomparable view while enjoying a beverage, a small plate from the bar menu, or a complete meal whenever the club is open. During the summer months, weather permitting, the terrace is open for outdoor dining, or lounging, during lunch and dinner hours. The Sullivan Room is available for private dining or meetings by reservation.
When dining at the Club, members write out their own order and sign a ticket which is then taken by the server. Costs of all food and beverage service as well as dues are billed to members’ credit cards the first of each month. Tipping, except for outside guests and private parties, is handled by member donations to the annual Holiday Fund distributed among staff members. If you would like a receipt for any particular food or beverage service, request one from your server when ordering. While there is no formal dress code at the club, business casual would be the most typical style of dress.
PARTIES
The main Club room—the Kiva-- and the Sullivan Room are both available for private parties or breakfast meetings by special arrangement. The main dining room can accommodate parties up to 120. The Sullivan Room at the south end of the floor can seat 16 for breakfast, lunch, dinner or meetings. During normal hours of operation, members are welcome and often accommodated in the Sullivan Room when the main dining room is reserved for a special event. Party menus ranging from snacks to lavish buffets to full sit-down dinners are available. Contact Club Manager Don Santelli 312-922-8080 for details.
