Beyond Labels Activity

Create labels with adjectives, emotions, or other descriptive words. Place one label on each person in a place they won’t be able to see (e.g. Shoulder, back of shoulder). Other people should read the word and act in a way so that the person with the label will be able to guess what the label is. Remember to state that these labels are randomly selected and are not a direct reflection of the person with the label.

Talking points:

What if these labels had been disenfranchising stereotypes?

We do damage when label others?

Our behaviors towards others can act as labels?

We must create environments where students feel safe and free to be themselves.
