Thought for Reflection

  • "The congregation's voice is the heart of all church music. It can and should be beautiful, meaningful, musical, full of the spirit, responsive both to text and tune, and magnetic in drawing together all who hear."
  • -Alice Parker

Prelude Excerpt, Fifth Symphony by Tchaikovsky

Greetings and Announcements

Passing of the Peace

Leader:The peace of Christ be with you.

PEOPLE:And also with you.

We invite you to turn to your neighbors and greet them.

Introit “When We All Get Together with the Lord” by Moe Jaffe and Bix Reichner

+*Hymn of Praise “When in Our Music God Is Glorified” 561

*Call to Worship

One: Jesus, we come to you as one,

All: With mixed feelings of joyful solitude and cold desolation.

One: We come to you as a few close friends,

All: For you have assured us, "where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them."

One: We come to you as the full Christian community.

All: You have shown us what it means to stand as a faithful community, serving you, loving you.

*Prayer of Invocation

*Sentences of Praise (Psalm 104:33)

One: I will sing to the Lord as long as I live

All: I will sing praise to my God while I have being.

+ * Gloria 756

Glory to God, glory to God, glory in the highest!

Glory to God, glory to God, alleluia, alleluia! (repeat)

Prayer of Confession

Creator God, we come to you as a people torn between self and community; unaware of our worth. We make thoughtless choices. We see what we offer ourselves and our closest neighbors, often without realizing the bounty we can offer the world. Help us to understand our value here. Teach us that each decision matters, and that a new decision is always upon us.

Assurance of God’s Forgiveness

Response 286

Spirit, spirit of gentleness, blow through the wilderness, calling and free,

Spirit, spirit of restlessness, stir me from placidness, wind, wind on the sea.

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come;

thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
