1.Intent

Itistheintentofthisspecificationtoprovideacosteffectiveinstallationofasewerlateralclean outwithout conventionalexcavation.

2.General

TheVAC-A-TEE®productandprocessconsistsoflocatingasewerlateralpipebythemost effectivemeansavailabletotheinstaller.Themostcommonmethodutilizedandassociated with the VAC-A-TEE® process consistsof insertinga videocamera with aninternal sonde intothe lateralservicelinefromthemainlinepipe.Locatingthelateralpipeisaccomplishedusinga locatingreceiver.Thelocatedlateralpipeshallbemarkedbydrivingasteelpininthesoilwhen possible,andmarkingthe surface with markingpaintanda markingflag.

Next,aboreholeapproximatelytwenty-inches(20”)indiameteriscreatedbyvacuum excavation.AsaddleisaffixedtooneendofaPVCriserpipeutilizingasolventweld.Amastic adhesive/sealantisappliedtotheundersideofthesaddle.Thepipeandsaddleareinserted down intothehole withthe saddle endfirst,tosnapfit ontothe exteriorof the lateralpipe.The saddleispresseddownontothelateralpipewherebythesaddleexpandsunderthedownward forceuntilthebottom-mostportionofthesaddlehassurroundedmorethanfiftypercent(50%) of thepipe diameter.

Oncethesaddlehassurroundedmorethanhalfofthepipeandpassesthespringlineofthe pipe,thesaddleretractsthuspullingdownwarduntilthesaddlehassnappedasitencompasses amajorityofthepipe.Next,theannularspacebetweentheboreholeandtheriserpipeisfilled withsandorpea-graveltowithinsix-inches(6")ofthesurfacegradeandanapprovedcleanout capisinstalled.Ahydrostaticwatertestisperformedandthecrownofthelateralpipeiscut open.Thesurfaceis thenrestored toits original condition.Theprocessshallbe VAC-A-TEE®by LMKEnterprises, Inc.orequal.

3.Material

Thematerialshallbeaone-piece,moldedPVCsaddleandshallbecompatiblewiththeriser pipe.Solventweldingtheriser pipe intothe saddle boss.Thesaddle shallconformtothe lateral pipebyasnapfitwherethelateralpipeiseitherfour(4”)orsix(6”)indiameter.Theriserpipe shallbeSDR35orSDR26PVC.Theresinwillbeaone-partmarinegradeadhesive/sealant designedforthespecificdesignedfortheapplicationofaVAC-A-TEEsaddleadheredtothe lateral pipe by achemicalbond.

4.InstallationProcedure

4.1In grass areas, the sod shall be neatly cut and removed. In pavement areas, the pavementshallbe straight-line marked,cut andremoved.

4.2Thevacuumexcavatedboreholeshallbeapproximatelytwenty-inches(20")indiameter andall spoils shallbe deposited inavacuumtruck.

4.3A riser pipeofanappropriate length issolvent weldedtothe saddle.

4.4Theadhesive/sealantshallbeappliedtotheundersideof the saddleatnoless thana¼” thicklayer.

4.5Thesaddleandriserpipeshallbecarefullyinsertedintotheborehole,settingthe

saddleontothepipe,applyingadownwardforcecausingthesaddletoexpandandsnap ontothelateralpipe.

4.6Immediatelyafterthesaddlehasbeenaffixedtothelateralpipe,theriserpipeshould

besecuredbybackfillingtheboreholewithsandorpea-graveltowithin6-inchesofthe original grade.

5.Testing& Cutting

Anexfiltrationtestshallbeperformedbyfillingtheriserpipewitha6-footcolumn ofwater. Thetestshallbeperformednolessthan12-hoursfromthetimeofaffixing the saddletothepipe.Thecolumnofwatershallbeheldforfiveminutes. Thewater levelshallbemeasuredfromthe topoftheriser pipe. Zeroleakageis allowed.

Adiamondcoresawshallbeintroducedintotheriserpipe,thecrownofthepipeiscut andthe couponisremoved.

Anapproved capor cover is installed at groundlevelor belowgroundlevel.

6.Deviations

Shouldsoilconditionsrevealrunningsandorsimilarconditionsthatwouldprohibitthe installation, theinstallationshallbeterminatedandtheborehole filledwithflowablegrout.The surface area shallberestored to itsoriginal condition.

7.Clean-Up

Thesitewill alwaysbe leftcleanandthe propertyrestored toconditions equaltositeconditions priortothe VAC-A-TEE®installation.

8.Final Acceptance

Uponcompletion,the installer will deliver avideotapeof the completedwork tothe owner.The ownerswillreviewthedocumentationandthesitetodeterminethatthescopeofworkis complete andthe work is satisfactory.
