Independent Reading

BOOK PROJECT

This will be a Summative Writing Grade, see rubric on back.

We will go to the bookstore as a class to checkout the novel (School ID card is REQUIRED).

Choose ONE of the following assignments to complete on your independent reading book.

PROJECT OPTIONS:

LEVEL 1-4Reading Log:

Keepa reading log while you read the book. At the end of each reading, complete a reading log entry. At least 12 entries needed. There are only about 110 pages in the book, so stop to complete an entry at least every 9 pages.

EACH entry must include the date you read, the page numbers, the time it took you to read, a brief summary (3-5 sentences), and reflection (at least 2 sentences)with comments/reactionsto what you read. Reflections are required. Project will receive a ZERO without reflections. (Handouts available, or create your own). Include a cover page with the title, author, illustration, and your name, date, and period.

LEVEL 1-5Reading Log:

______MINIMUM of 20 entries, from start to finish of the book.

______Create your own log (include date of reading, pages read, and reading time).

______Summary content demonstrates analytical understanding of the plot, conflict, and character development in the book (more than 5 sentences in length).

______Reflection content skillfully demonstrates analysis of text (more than 5 sentences). Reflections are REQUIRED. You will receive a “0” if you do include reflections for EACH entry.

______Unique and complete cover page is included.

LEVEL 4:

______Must complete at least 12 entries, from start to finish of the book.

______Include date of reading, reading time, & pages read. Handout available upon request.

______Summary of reading is at least 5 sentences in length.

______Thoughtful reflection of reading is an additional 3 sentences in length. Reflections are REQUIRED. You will receive a “0” if you do include reflections for EACH entry.
