  • February 11 – NCGLNAC Lecture Series – Session 1. Location: JayCountyHistorical Society, Portland, Indiana. Learn about local Native American and Great Lakes tribal history and culture in this first lecture in a three-part series. Professor Elizabeth Nesbitt (Miamidescent), English and Native American Studies, BallStateUniversity, will discuss the legal issues and concerns of Native American Nations within the United States. 7 p.m. Free and open to the public.
  • March 11- NCGLNAC Lecture Series – Session 2. Location: JayCountyHistorical Society, Portland, Indiana. Learn more about Great Lakes Native Americans in this second lecture of the three-part series. Dr. Malea Powell, American Indian Studies Faculty and Associate Professor, MichiganStateUniversity, will discuss nineteenth-century Native intellectual Andrew J. Blackbird (Ojibwe/Odawa) and his writings. 7 p.m. Free and open to the public.
  • March 25 and 26 – NCGLNAC Spring Arts and Crafts Workshops in cooperation with the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art in Indianapolis, Indiana. TheNina Mason Pulliam Education Center of the Eiteljorg’s new Mel and Joan Perelman Wing will host 5 classes: Ojibwe(Chippewa) culture and traditions taught by Denny Denman; basic finger weaving sashes or armbands taught by George Wieske; Potawatomi black ash basket weaving taught by Chris Rapp Morseau; beaded and decorated leather pouches for cell phones or wallets taught by Paula Butcher; and Ojibweminiature beaded rosettes with porcupine quill drops taught by Nita Norcross. A short Saturday lecture will also be presented. Pre-registration is required by March 15. Class Fee: $55 ($50 for NCGLNAC or Eiteljorg members).   • April 8 – NCGLNAC Lecture Series – Session 3. Location: JayCountyHistorical Society, Portland, Indiana. Learn more about Great Lakes Native Americans in this final lecture of the three-part series. Daryl Baldwin II (Miami Tribe of Oklahoma), Director of the Myaamia Project at MiamiUniversity, will discuss Miami culture and the revitalization of the Miami language. 7 p.m. Free and open to the public.
  • June 24 – Thirdannual NCGLNAC Gathering of Great Lakes Nations at the Jay County Fairgrounds in Portland, Indiana. This is a celebration of Great Lakes Native American culture. Enjoy Native American drums, singing and dancing, a pre-1840’s living history encampment, artisan demonstrations, storytelling and an auction of museum quality items. Vendors will be selling Native American items. Hours are10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Grand Entry at11 a.m. and at5 p.m. Admission charge. Contact Kay Neumayr at 765-426-3022 or .
  • August 6 to 11- NCGLNAC Traditional Arts and Crafts Workshops at JayCounty Fairgrounds in Portland, Indiana. Some of the classes being planned include moose hair appliqué, flintknapping, pre-contact stone, antler and bone carving, Iroquois bead work, silversmithing, sweet grass basket weaving, and porcupine quill work. Several other classes are being finalized. A children’s class (fee will be $15, including lunch) will be held Wednesday from 9 – 4 for children ages 6 – 14. Pre-registration is required by July 26.   • August 10 – Live Native American Concert at Arts Place in Portland, Indiana. Internationally-known opera and popular singer Tim Noble, Shawnee descent, will treat the audience to his magnificent baritone voice in an eclectic mix of songs. Tickets are $12 ($8 for Summer Workshop participants and students) and will be available on line June 1 at or from 260-726-4809.   • September 30 and October 1 – Jay Heritage Festival at the JayCounty Historical Society in Portland, Indiana. NCGLNAC will participate with Great Lakes Native American displays, an early 1800’s encampment, demonstrations and more. Contact .
  • November 3 – December 23 – Out of Tradition: The Works of the Tradition Bearers of the National Center for Great Lakes Native American Culture at Arts Place in Portland, Indiana. This is a month-long comprehensive multi-media exhibit of traditional and contemporary fine arts of the tradition bearers for NCCGLNAC over the past 10 years.   • November 4 and 5 –NCGLNAC Fall Friendship Fire at the JayCounty Fairgrounds in Portland, Indiana. A gathering of members and friends for fellowship, site work, education, and a lecture.
