I hope you had a wonderful long weekend. Back to School Night is this Wednesday! Please send in any forms that needed to be signed that your student has brought home. Check your students agenda & take home folder every night this is so you know what the assignments are each night! Students will have math homework every night and reading for 20 minutes this week. Spelling & other reading homeworkwill start soon.
This week your students will be learning the following:
Math: Rounding numbers to the nearest 100. Review Place Value. Use a number line to Round.
Social Studies: Discuss Examples & Non-Examples of Democratic Principles. Discuss the common good.
Science: Won’t start until the second part of Quarter 1. Social Studies will then stop.
Reading: Make inferences about how a character’s actions and nonverbal communication contribute to the sequence of events.
Writing: Brainstorm facts and details about an experiencebefore writing. Introduce a narrator.

Back to School Night
Back-to-School Night for all families is scheduled for Wednesday, September 7, 2016 from 6:00-8:10 p.m. We are having one back to school night this year. Please see the schedule below.

BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT INFORMATION
Families will have an opportunity to meet teachers and staff, visit homeroom classrooms, and join the PTA. Families are encouraged to first attend the general session from approximately 6:00 to 6:30 p.m. in the gymnasium. During this time, staff members will be introduced and a variety of school-based initiatives will be shared. After the general session meeting, families will be invited to visit classrooms.
Instrumental Music Information Meeting-September 7th, 5:30 p.m., in the Gym
The meeting is open to 4th and 5th grade families. We will discuss instrument suitability, rental cost, scheduling, performances, expectations, and parent questions. Your attendance is not mandatory for your child to participate in the program. I look forward to meeting you and to a successful school year. Student Code of Conduct
TheMCPS Student 2016-2017 Code of Conduct was sent home last week. The Code of Conduct provides an overview of discipline procedures and protocols and the range of consequences students could face for violating various policies, regulations, and rules. George B. Thomas Saturday School
Saturday School offers tutoring and mentoring in reading/language arts, mathematics, and test-taking skills for students in grades 1-12 that resides in Montgomery County. It takes place Saturday mornings from 8:30 to 11:00 a.m. at 12 high schools centers. Parents can register in person at any of the 12 centers starting September 10, 2016. Or you can register online.

School Hours
Our official school hours for all students K-5, are 9:00 a.m. - 3:25 p.m. (6 hours, 25 minutes, the instructional day for students). The bell rings at 8:55 a.m., the time at which all students should be present. All students will attend school for a full day beginning the first day of school, Monday, August 29th, 2016. Daily attendance and punctuality are very important to school success. Please make every effort to ensure your child is present and ON TIME every day. Students arriving at 9:00 a.m. or after will be considered tardy.
Afternoon Dismissal Procedures
EachStonegate family has received 3 copies of their assigned numbers which should be visible and displayed on the dashboard on the passenger side of the car. Two staff members and three patrols will be stationed at the car circle to call out the numbers of the cars via walkie-talkie to the staff members in the school monitoring the car riders. Students whose parents/guardians park their car and walk to the front of the school to pick up their child will be considered walkers.
Global Children’s Center
We are pleased to welcome Global Children’s Center to theStonegate community and they are honored to serve the children, families, and staff atStonegate Elementary. Global Children’s Center is our new before and after care program and they began their program on the first day of school. Global will begin at 6:30 a.m. until the start of school and then after school until 6:30 p.m. You can register during Back to School Night. Please visit their website to register at
Message from the PTA
Please join the PTA for their first general membership meeting on Tuesday, September 6th at 6:30 p.m. in the APR. They will host a volunteer fair where you can learn about what is happening with the PTA and sign up to volunteer for events and activities. Childcare will be provide by Global Children's for children ages 5-12. Pizza will be served. There will be a pause in the fair for a vote on the 2016-2017 budget at 7:15 p.m. Everyone is welcome! Join us!
