Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday nights:

  1. Sort your words the same way we did in class.

2. Choose an activity on the back of this sheet to complete on lined paper, unless otherwise specified. Return the activity to school tomorrow in your blue folder.

3. You may do an activity more than once, as long as you do it with a different list of words.

Thursday nights:

  1. Sort your words the same way we did in class.

2. Ask an adult to give you a practice Spelling and Word Wall Test. You do not need to turn in the practice test.

Hidden Words
Draw a picture and “hide” 10 of your words in the picture. / Questions
Choose 5 words. Write 1 question using each word and underline each spelling word. Be sure to use a question mark at the end of the sentence. / ABC Order
Write all of your words in ABC order. / Syllables
Write each word and then write the number of syllables you hear in the word.
Example:
Baby: 2 syllables
Run: 1 syllable
Words Worth
Write each word and tell how much each word is “worth.” Vowels are worth 10 cents, and consonants are worth 5 cents.

Ask an adult to time you while you sort your words quickly and accurately 3 times. Say each word as you sort it. Write down your 3 times and circle your fastest time. / Fancy Pants
On a piece of paper, draw a large pair of pants. Inside the pants, write each word in your nicest, neatest, best 1st grade handwriting. / Rainbow Write
Choose 10 words. Rainbow write each word using 3 different colors.
Word Search
Choose 10 words and create a word puzzle online:
Print it out, solve it, and bring it to school tomorrow. / Word Scramble
Choose 10 words. Write each word with scrambled up letters. Make a word bank at the top of the page. Ask someone in your family to unscramble the words. Bring the sheet to school tomorrow.

Write your spelling words in a list. Next to each word, write a word that begins with the same two letters.

Write a letter to a friend using 5 or more of your spelling words. Draw a picture to go with your letter. / Bookmark Design
