  1. Carefully consider the following sources. Make a list of at least 3 knowledge issue questions that arose when you were reading. These should include WOWs (your list of words) and pertain to knowledge in general. You will also be asked to refer to these sources specifically during the seminar.
  2. View the slideshow/read the descriptions of 10 controversial art pieces:

  4. The ALA’s compiled list of challenged books by year
  5. The two Ted Talks “Art that Makes a Point” and “Art that Changes the World.”
  6. “Sigh of the Tiger” from The Atlantic.
  7. Art functions in a myriad of ways within a society. Rank the following functions in their order of importance. Be prepared in class to justify your answer clearly, referring to specific sources.

  1. Purge emotions
  2. To enact social change
  3. To imitate life
  4. To enhance morality
  5. To help you relax
  6. To defend/uphold morality and values

  1. Write a coherent response of about ¾-1 page in response to the following quote. Challenge: try to address at least one counter claim or alternative viewpoint in your discussion. As usual, try to include an actual example (not a hypothetical) for support.
