TheDryden NativeFriendship Centre is currently accepting resumesforUrban Aboriginal Healthy Living Program Worker (UAHLP). This is a contract position until March 31, 2017.

This position works on a rotating shift.

Week 1 – Monday to Friday, 10:00 am to 6:00 pm

Week 2 – Tuesday to Saturday, 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm

Summary of Area of Responsibility: (full job description available upon request):

The Program Worker will be responsible todevelop, coordinate, facilitate, monitor and evaluate healthy lifestyle program with a focus on providing education on healthy eating & increase physical fitness levels of Urban Aboriginal children & families. Healthy Kids Program components include: promotion & provisions of healthy nutrition; physical activity and lifelong healthy lifestyles. UAHLPProgramme components include: sports, physical fitness, recreation, nutrition, smoking cessation and youth leadership.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Willing & able to work Tuesday to Saturday from noon to 8:00 p.m.
  • Post-secondary education in the area of sports & recreation and/or nutrition; with a preference given to specialized training in the area of child/youth services. Related work experience, education and training will also be considered.
  • Highly motivated and actively engaged in a healthy lifestyle; with lived knowledge in the areas of nutrition, active living, and the benefits of living substance and smoke-free. A role model for clients/ participants;
  • Experience in program planning, coordination, facilitation,data collection, and evaluation;
  • Effective written and oral communication skills; Ability to speak Oji-Cree or Ojibwe an asset;
  • Must possess skills and experience in presenting educational workshops and facilitating groups;
  • Proficient computer skills, including presentations and database;
  • Able to meet deadlines and perform tasks with minimal supervision;
  • A team player capable of coordinating activities with other Friendship Centre programs;
  • Knowledge of the Friendship Centre and the various programs provided to the community;
  • Knowledge of Aboriginal culture and the social reality that urban Aboriginal children & their families experience;
  • Current First Aid / CPR certification or be willing to be certified;
  • Valid Ontario Drivers License; provision of Driver’s Abstract will be employment condition;
  • A clear Criminal Reference Check (CPIC) will be a condition of the employment offer.

Salary:To commensurate based on education and experience.
