Measures 5" x 3"

MATERIALS:

Hook: Steel Size #7

Yarn: #10 Bedspread Cotton

Stitches used: ch, sl st, sc.

Difficulty: EASY-MEDIUM

NOTE: This bookmark tends to curl up but will lay flat after placing it in a book for a while. You can starch it if you want to.

ROW 1: Ch 8, working in the hump of each chain, sc in 2nd ch from hk and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn. (7 sc)

ROWS 2-36: Sc in each sc. Ch 1, turn.

ROW 37: Sc in each sc. Fasten off.

SIDES: LEFT SIDE:

RND 1: Reattach thread at the end of Row 27. Sc in the end of Rows 27-21 (I know this sounds backward but you are actually working in the reverse direction). Ch 1, turn.

RNDS 2-6: Sc in each sc, ch 1, turn.

RND 7: Sc in each sc. Fasten off.

RIGHT SIDE:

RND 1: Reattach thread at the end of Row 21. Sc in the end of Rows 21-27 . Ch 1, turn.

RNDS 2-6: Sc in each sc, ch 1, turn.

RND 7: Sc in each sc. Fasten off.

EDGING:

Join thread on top right hand side of cross. Ch 1 [ sc in same st, hdc in next st, dc in next st, tr in next st, dc in next st, hdc in next st, 2 sc in next st].

Working down the left side of the cross, sc in end of each row, down to the "arm" or "side", sc in corner. Working across the top of the left side or arm, sc in end of each row across. Rep from [ to ] on the end of the arm. Working across the bottom of the left side or arm, sc in the end of each row across, sc in the corner.

Continue down the left side of the cross working a sc in the end of each row. Rep from [ to ] across the bottom. Continue up the right side of the cross working a sc in the end of each row up to the right side or arm, sc in corner. Working across the bottom of the right side or arm, sc in end of each row across. Rep from [ to ] on the end of the arm. Working across the top of the right side or arm, sc in end of each row across, sc in corner.Working up the right side, sc in end of each remaining row. Join with sl st in 1st sc made.

FINISHING: You can decorate the cross with ribbons and such if desired.
