JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Community Caretaker
GRADE: Grade 3 (£17,714 - £19,742)
DIRECTORATE: Housing Services

REPORTING TO: Team Leader
RESPONSIBLE FOR: This post has no supervisory requirements
MAIN CONTACTS:Tenants and members of the public, employees of St Leger Homes and Doncaster Council, contractors working on behalf of St Leger Homes and suppliers of equipment and tools.
1. JOB PURPOSE
To support the Estate Management Team and other agencies to provide an effective estate management service to residents, keeping all areas clean, tidy, safe and well maintained. This will include a wide range of duties in association with preparing vacant dwellings to the Property Standard.
To work to company policies and procedures, maintaining service standards at all times and ensuring that all performance targets are met. To work with minimum supervision and to be able to practically manage work loads. This work includes attendance in emergency situations when requested.
2. KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
2.1 Service Responsibilities
  • To use plant and equipment provided by St Leger Homes, for estate management work, in accordance with legislation. Ensure that tools and equipment are used safely at all times, and checkthat all plant and equipment is kept secure.
  • To carry out general gardening duties to both void and tenanted properties, including grass cutting, hedge trimming and minor pruning of trees.
  • To drive any vehicle in a responsible and safe manner following the guidelines provided by St Leger Homes ensuring that any concerns about maintenance are reported to the Team Leader and rectified.
  • To complete minor works on estates managed by St Leger Homes. This could include tasks such as putting up signage as requested by the Area Estate Management Team.
  • To advise tenants and residents on the removal of bulky items through the service provided by DMBC.
  • To assist in the upkeep of all estates managed by St Leger Homes, including needle stick removal and safe disposal, litter picking, removing fly tipped waste, transporting specialist waste, removing graffiti, assisting with estate clean up days and any other tasks required to ensure that estates managed by St Leger Homes are kept up to standard, in line with Company guidelines and procedures.
  • To inspect and clean communal areas of flatsin line with service standards,this includes allbin areas and bin chutes and to remove any blockages.
  • To distribute information to tenants and residents on estates, including the door to door delivery of letters and leaflets, as required.
  • To use own initiative and proactively identify any caretaking tasks that need doing on an estate and ensure these tasks are completed.
  • To keep accurate records of all work completed, including start and finish times. This includes reporting all issues relating to repairs or any other estates issues to the relevant department or external organisation.

The postholder’s duties must be carried out in accordance with Policies and Procedures of
St. Leger Homes of Doncaster Ltd including, but not limited to, Equal Opportunities Policies, Information Security Policies, Financial Regulations and Standing Orders, Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and other subsequent health and safety legislation.
These duties should be regarded as neither exclusive nor exhaustive as the post holder may be required to undertake other reasonably determined duties and responsibilities for the Company, commensurate with the grading of the post.
