Week 9 Newsletter - Grade 3

(October 23rd – October 27th)

This Past Week's Events

The grade 3s have started to work on a new project: creating a country. The students have been creating different homes for their countries based upon the environmental conditions with their countries. Some students have had to contend with issues related to extreme heat, extreme cold, frequent typhoons, and frequent earthquakes amongst others. The students have been working in groups to make a viable country and will continue to work together in the coming weeks.

This week students also learned to about countries and continents. Students learned about the different types of housing found in the various regions of the world. They also learned how to describe their own homes and how to speak about where they live in terms of address, neighborhood, and city.

In addition to this work, the students have received homework in the same format as the previous week. This was a chance for the students to review and practice some of the new words that continue to be a bit difficult for them.

Next Week's Expectations

Next week we will continue our new unit on cultures around the world. We will take the time to look at the ways transportation differs between countries, as well as the ways in which they are similar. We will be looking at the types of transportationin different countries around the world. From there we will look at why transportation is different in different places.

We will also begin reviewing for the upcoming midterm examination. The exam will take place during the first full week of November. Students will be asked a wide array of questions covering all topics previously covered in the class. This includes but is not limited to character traits, hobbies, class subjects, housing, countries, and continents. This week’s homework will give the students an opportunity to practice and review previous subject matter.

Homework

This coming week we will be using the same homework board of the past two weeks.

One activity "Using Verbs" will give the students the chance to practice how to use verbs when they're talking about different sets of people. Please ensure that your child uses all three verbs in the activity and completes it by creating 21 separate sentences.

Another activity "Belonging to" will help the students practice using 's to show possession.

A third new box is called "Questions and Answers" where students will make questions using the key words, and write the answers to them. Please note that each weeks “Questions and Answers” section will ask the students to use a specific category from the keywords list.

光仁小學ESL雙語班週報– 三年級

第一學期第九週

本週重點(10/23 - 10/27)

三年級的學生開始學習他們新的作業:設計一個國家。學生根據他們國家的環境條件,設計了不同的家,有些學生不得不面對極熱、極冷、頻繁的颱風、頻繁地震這類的相關議題,學生藉由小組討論一起設計一個國家並於接下來幾週繼續合作。

本週學生們也學了國家和不同的大陸,學生們學了在世界不同地區不同類型的房屋,他們也學了如何去描述他們自己的家和如何說出他們住的地方的地址、鄰近地區和城市。

除了上述課程外,學生們也收到了與前一週相同格式的作業。這是一個讓學生複習和練習較深字彙的機會。

下週重點(10/30 – 11/3)

下週我們將持續新的單元:世界各地的文化,我們將花時間來研究各國之間的交通運輸方式,學習各國的相似處及不同處。我們將學習世界各國的交通運輸種類,然後了解為什麼不同地方使用不同的交通工具。

我們也會為了即將到來的期中考試做複習。期中考試將在11月的第二週舉行,學生們將被問到以前在課堂上所有學習主題的各種問題。會包含學過的主題但並不只限於性格特質、興趣愛好、科目、住房、國家和洲(大陸)。這週的回家作業將給學生一個練習和複習以前課程的機會。
