JUST A THOUGHT…

This is an unusual time of the year – no different than most – but unusual just the same. Really cool and nice in the early mornings…but hitting 90 in the afternoon. As I said, unusual but pretty standard for our part of the country.

It’ll soon change, though – to my favorite time of the year – the Fall. It never last long enough for me. Breezy and sweater weather turning into about two weeks of coat weather and then we hit the Spring! I remember playing football on Christmas Day in shorts and a tee shirt.

Welcome to Louisiana!

What I am reminded of is the goodness and graciousness God gives to us each year and each day…How He shows Himself personally to me and – if you are an indicator – to you, as well.

May we continue to glory in His grace and love. I’ll see you Sunday…blessings to you all!

NEW REFRESHMENT PROCEDURE PUT INTO PLACE

As you know, we’ve been having an uptick in visitors on Sunday mornings, primarily children – children that we’re convinced do not have a lot to eat. They’re hungry…hungry in more ways than one (if you get my drift)

Our Church Board has suggested that we begin preparing a breakfast for them – and all of our Church Folks – on Sunday mornings of pancakes, sausage and a drink.

After a quick poll of our folks, we’ve estimated that we (all) spend about $25.00when we provide refreshments. We’re suggesting that this amount just be given weekly – we’re signing up as usual – and the pancakes and stuff will be prepared and ready for you when you get here.

We’re purchasing a flat griddle, pancake ingredients, sausage and drinks for all of our folks weekly. Just watch for it and plan for it when it’s your turn to give!

We’re trying to feed as many as we can from our Church. Please pray and take part!

BOOK OF COMMON PRAYER

APP FOR YOUR PHONE

Many of you have commented on the readings we commit to on Sunday mornings. Those are from the Book of Common Prayer (BCP). If you’d like to have that study opportunity each day, you can download an APP for your phone that’ll allow you to commit Bible verses to instruction and memory every day.

Find BCP (the icon is a black Bible with a Cross on the front)in your phone’s APP Store. It’s a free download! And additionally, when you get to a particular day – say, November 18 – you can hit the arrow (upper right hand corner) and it’ll read the verses aloud.

It’s a great way to continue to read God’s Word daily…!

COWBOY WISDOM

Talk low. Talk slow. And don’t say too much.

CHILDREN’S MINISTRY

Be a part of ourChildren’s Hour! Our children have certain needs and attention spans, and we’re moving to address that need. If you’re interested in helping in this most important ministry, just see me or Tina Butterfield or Jennifer Winslett on Sunday. And bring your children on Sunday. A Sign-Up Sheet is available!

OVERHEARD THIS WEEK…

I’m multitasking…

I can listen, ignore and forget at the same time.

OUR DAILY BREAD

Ninety percent (90%) of all Christians have never read the Bible through. Amazing!

In 2017, we’re reading the Bible through as a Church Family, with a combination of Old Testament and New Testament readings. This should average out to be two or three chapters per day.

Sunday, October 15:1 Kings 18; 1 Thessalonians 1;Monday, October 16:1 Kings 19; 1 Thessalonians 2; Tuesday, October 17:1 Kings 20; 1 Thessalonians 3;Wednesday, October 18:1 Kings 21; 1 Thessalonians 4;Thursday, October 19: 1 Kings 22; 1 Thessalonians 5;Friday, October 20:2 Kings 1; 2 Thessalonians 1;Saturday,October 21:2 Kings 2; 2 Thessalonians 2.

ANOTHER FUN TRIVIA FACT

The Yale crew (rowing) team, was the first collegiate sports team, having started in 1843. The Yale-Harvard crew race, was the first and is longest running intercollegiate American sports event. The first race was held in 1852.

CROSS CHURCH MISSIONS OPPORTUNITIES

Little Things Can Mean a Lot

Pill Bottles

In developing third-world nations, there aren’t enough pill bottles to go around. It’s often that tissue paper is used to wrap up medicine (pills & tablets) to send home with patients.

Wonder what to do with your empty pill bottles when they’re empty? Peel off the personal information label and bring them with you to Church. We’ll gather them up and send along to Matthew 25:Ministries for distribution.

Hotel Sundries

Gather up those hotel soaps and shampoos and bring them to Church with you. These small contributions make a big difference in the life of a family with immediate personal needs through our local homeless shelters.

Soda Can Tabs

Soda can tabs make a difference in a child’s life at St. Jude’s Hospital in Memphis. We all know someone whose life has been altered at St. Jude’s. Bring those tabs along with you each week for recycling!

CHURCH SIGNS I’VE SEEN RECENTLY

Just love everyone.

I’ll sort `em out later

PRAYER REQUESTS

Let’s talk about prayer requests…If you have any prayer requests you’d like to share with our group – and I know not all prayer requests ought to be made public – send them along to me, along with their relation to you (Example: Don Porter, Cousin to Steve Fowler). I’ll post them here and we can know where our hearts are coming from on a regular basis.
