The Carers Centre’s aim is to provide those who look after someone in Tameside with information, advice, support and advocacy. The Centre is part of Tameside Council Services and works with partners to ensure Carers get the support they need.

If an individual is caring for someone who lives in Tameside then they can use the Centre and discuss any issues with a member of the Wellbeing Team.

The Drop-In Centre is open Monday to Friday 11am to 2pm (excluding Bank Holidays). Other times/visits are by appointment. However, calls will be taken throughout Council office hours.

Services at the Carers Centre are freeand impartial with confidential information and support available through their Advisors. The Carers Centre is part of a service called the Health and Wellbeing Service within the council. More details about this service are available if you enquire about it with the Carers Centre.

Carers Direct Helpline

You can call the Carers Direct helpline if you need help with your caring role and want to talk to someone about what options are available to you.

These services are available for people living in or caring for someone in England.

Helpline:

0300 123 1053- open from 9am to 8pm Monday to Friday, and 11am to 4pm, at weekends and is closed on bank holidays

SMS service:

Carers Direct can send you brief information by text message (SMS). For example, if you’d like to know the details of your local carers’centre, just call or email the helpline and Carers Direct can send you the information by text message.

If you are busy at certain times of day, you can send the Carers Direct helpline a message and ask for an adviser to call you back for free at a time that is convenient to you.

Webchat service:

If you want to ask a question while browsing the Carers Direct website or you need help finding information, you can use the webchat service totalk to an adviser live online. The webchat service is available between 9am and 6pm Monday to Friday.

Young Carers Project

If you are a Young Carer, under the age of 18, you can join the Young Carers Project. The project can provide:

  • Individual advice and support
  • The chance to meet other young Carers
  • Regular trips and activities
  • A regular newsletter
  • A Young Carers Pack

The young Carers pack contains helpful information on:

  • Assessments
  • Help with money
  • What to do in an emergency
  • Disability & illness
