Aims

This is an opportunity to explore how counselling skills can be used to develop and improve communication to make your leadership and followership more effective

You will learn some invaluable skillsto make your interactions with children, young people, parents and colleagues more positive and empathic

You will consider what you can do to listen better and what you need to avoid...knowing and understanding your own ‘blocks’ to listening is a really powerful tool.

You will talk about the challenges of ‘charged’ emotional exchanges and how you can respond in a helpful way that doesn’t make things worse

You will explore both effective and ineffective listening skills so that you can experience the difference and consider how you can improve your own skills set

Counselling skills will help you to respond appropriately to children and young people’s needs improving learning outcomes; engage with parents and other stakeholders openly and honestly and listen to and support colleagues congruently and confidently

The day is fun and interactive. The skills you learn will be beneficial in both your personal and professional relationships

Trainer:

The course facilitator is Sharon Lawrence. Sharon started her working life in the British Army at 17 years old where she served in the Queen Alexandra's Royal Army Nursing Corps. ‘I realised that it wasn't enough to fix bodies and that I needed skills to help people with the way they felt emotionally too. I left the Army in 1997 and began a basic counselling course...and I've never looked back’. Sharon is a senior accredited counsellor with the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP). She has been qualified as a counsellor since 2002 and as a teacher since 2004.
