SECTION 1: INFORMATION FOR APPLICANTS

Liberty is one of the leading human rights organisations in the UK. Liberty's Advice and Information Departmentis looking for enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers (unpaid) to assist in providing pro bono legal advice on human rights to members of the public.

The Advice and Information section receives thousands of queries every year and depends on the assistance of volunteers to research the law and draft appropriate responses.

Volunteers working in the Advice and Information Department will research the law and draft letters of legal advice in response to queries on a range of domestic human rights issues including police powers, terrorism, community care, privacy, protest and freedom of expression. Please note that there is no direct client contact in this role.

Advice and Information Volunteers are an invaluable support to the charity arm of Liberty’s advice services. We offer volunteers the opportunity to gain experience in research and drafting on a wide variety of areas of UK human rights law. This is an excellent opportunity to make a real contribution to Liberty’s work and to gain an insider’s view of one of the UK’s leading campaigning organisations.

We are seeking to appoint:

  • Advice and Information legal volunteers to assist with queries from members of the public commencing as soon as possible. We are hoping to run an induction session, lasting for 2-3 hours,during w/c 9th May 2016
  • The commitment will be for one full day per week (on a weekday) for a minimum of 3 months. Flexible working patterns will be considered where necessary. Voluntary positions will last no longer than 6 months.
