GENERAL IN-SERVICE TRAINING GUIDE LINES

Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology

1  Note that in-service training consultation times at the UJ will only be on the following days as indicated . (Please provide your employer with a copy of this document).

2 Your lecturers: Mr. V Rameshar, Room 5168, Mr J Venter Room 5205 and Mr HP van der Walt Room 5202.

Mondays from 08:00 to 14:00

Tuesdays from 08:00 to 14:00

Wednesdays from 08:00 to 14:00

Thursdays and Fridays no consultation at campus

2  Read the information document included in your experimental report book, before you start with your training. KEEP THE FRONT COVER OF LOGBOOK THE SAME.

Pay special attention to the following:

All reports must be written in the 1st person (me or I, not we or they). Explain what you have done, where and why. Explain the outcome of the experience. Failure to comply would mean that your logbook will be rejected. Remember ELO’s

4 Add additional information to reports (you cannot report back in only three paragraphs what you did during three weeks). A general guideline is half a page of information per day.

5 It is compulsory for all students to register on registration day (THIS IS DONE ON ONE DAY ONLY) as allocated per faculty. This applies even you are not employed yet.

6 APPLICATIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT

Please attach your academic record without graphics to the application form and please save it as a word document. Restrict the size of document to 60 KB ( Go to outlook and attach the document saved as word document)

B It is compulsory for all students to apply online at ().

If a company appoint you for in-service training you also need to inform us. Remember the subject line for your mail should include, CONFIRM***P1/P2***HC/LC/CS/INSTR***SURNAME***STUDENT NUMBER

Conformations not in the above format will be rejected automatically AND you fail the subject.

C Remember that your training will only start the moment Mr. Rameshar, Mr. Venter or Mr HP van der Walt receive your letter of conformation on the mail ()

D Note: All applications for employment are deleted at the last day of each calendar month at 24:00. This means that if you have not been placed/ appointed during a specific month, you the have to reapply up until you are placed.

E By not reapplying we shall assume that you are employed and we expect a letter of appointment within 14 days.

7 In exceptional cases if you are not placed please fill in a sheet (STUDENTS NOT PLACED) during registration time. We will try and find employment for you. Remember not to wait for us to place you. The onus remains on you to find a suitable experiential training opportunity as we do not have control over your academic record.
