Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
1 Kings 19:16b, 19-21; Galatians 5:1, 13-18;
Luke 9:51-62 [99C]
“For you were called for freedom, brothers and sisters. But do not use this freedom as an opportunity for the flesh; rather, serve one another through love. For the whole law is fulfilled in one statement, namely, ‘you shall love your neighbor as yourself.’… ‘I say then, live by the Spirit…’
Jewish people pause five times each day and repeat the basic teaching to love God with all their heart, soul and mind. Moslems pause five times daily to pray. We begin and end our day with morning and evening prayer often planning our day and examining our conscience.
The great commandment of love of God and neighbor summarizes the ten given to Moses on Mt.Sinai. (Often artists place the first three on one tablet, the second seven on the second. The first speaks of our relationship with God and the latter, with our neighbor.) Jesus tells us that love for one another is the single great commandment.
Discipleship of Jesus is founded on one word RESPECT or love. Learn the commandments this way: I RESPECT God, His Name, His day. I respect authority, life, my sexuality and that of others, property and the truth. I respect other people, their values and am satisfied with God’s gifts to me. All are positive statements for living the Christian life. It is not what I cannot do but what I am called to do.
Jesus taught us the commandments through the beatitudes, with a duty and a reward. For reason Paul tells me today ‘live by the Spirit.’HIS WORD TODAY by Rev. William J. Reilly

40 Days of Prayer and Fasting
(July 1 to August 9)
Please join us in 40 Days of Prayer and Fasting for Peace from July 1 through August 9, 2010.
In light of what is happening in the Gulf and around the world, 40 Days of Prayer and Fasting will begin July 1st (Feast of the Most Precious Blood) and last 40 days until Aug 9 (Feast of Saint Theresa Benedicta of the Cross-Edith Stein).
Our Blessed Mother has said, "Prayer possesses a potent force and starts a chain reaction for good that is far more powerful than any atomic reaction."
We have seen amazing signs of the fulfillment of our Blessed Mother's promises through the power of prayer--especially the Rosary. One person committed to praying Heaven's Peace Plan can make a difference.
The collection for June 20th was XXXXXX. Thank you. Our Sunday collections have been low. Understandably the economic downfall affects us all. However, could you please consider increasing your level of contribution to our ministry?

Summer Ushers Needed
During the summer months there is an urgent need for Ushers/Ministers of Hospitality. Please consider volunteering for a Saturday or Sunday service during these months. Ask a friend to work with you. It’s easy and so important. All you have to do is arrive one half hour before Mass begins. Greet everyone, pass out Mass Program. Plan to approach two parishioners to bring up the gifts of Bread and Wine early, as you greet the incoming. It may be necessary for you to ask 4 others to help with the collections, which occurs immediately after intentions are read. After the Mass ended please pass out the Church Bulletin. There will be a sign up on the table for the summer weekends. Thank you for volunteering. When Mass ends, say good-bye and hand out the Newsletter as parishioners leave.St. JosephAcademy’s summer program begins June 28 through July 30, every weekday from 9 am to 12:30 pm. Children from 3 to 8 will be treated to Arts & Crafts, Music & Movement, Sports Skills, Cooking, Games, Science, Dramatic Play, Voice Lessons and More!
