Third year Visual Art & Design studio: portfolio of work (semester 1)

Developed byLlewllyn Negrin, Meg Keating, Anne McDonald, Leigh Hobba, Milan Milojevic, James Newitt, David Stephenson and Moira Cordiner

This generic criteria sheet for semester one was derived from a revised earlier one for semester two. It is written to be generic so that it can be applied to all the studios: painting, photography, sculpture, electronic media, and printmaking, furniture and visual communication.

Synopsis of the task and its context

The task, weighted 80%, requires students to produce a portfolio of art and/or design work. Unlike semester 2, the work is not required to be resolved, nor is it displayed or exhibited for the public. Students also are not required to write a project statement. As for semester two, the work is supported by documentation of their research and explorations conducted during the development of the work in the form of a ‘journal’ (that can take a variety of forms such as a wiki, blog). The portfolio is examined by a panel of two assessors: the studio head and a member who doesn’t teach in that studio. This criteria sheet shows equally weighted criteria for all seven studios. All the studios share the same learning outcomes, but have different tasks. The learning outcomes differ from those in semester two.
