“The people of nineveh turned from their evil ways” Jonah 3.1-5, 10
Sts. Martha & Mary Parish Website –
Every Wednesday, Mass at 7:00 p.m. – Novena to “Our Lady of Perpetual Help”
Today the Lord calls us to repentance and change of heart just as once he called the people of Nineveh. God calls us to repent of our sins, and assures us that His mercy is greater than His justice.
Paul exhorts us to turn away from perishables and to seek that which is abiding. Time is short, he says, and so we have to be detached from earthly cares and worries and attach ourselves to the Lord for time is running short.
Jesus’ Good News is a promise to love, promise of forgiveness and of a new life in God. As followers of Christ, do we share the loving forgiveness of Christ? Are we truly messengers of the Good News of Jesus?
Today’s Gospel invites us to repent for our sins and to renew our life, that is, to be open to the promptings of God and His grace and inspiration so that His Good News can take root in our hearts and bear rich fruits. It is an invitation to turn towards God by conversion of heart. The next step is faith. The Gospel invites us to believe in the Good News brought by Jesus Christ. To believe here means to trust, to take the Gospel as the principle of our life.
“Time is short”, says Paul in his letter to the Corinthians. Life passes away quickly. Paul calls upon each one of us today and we have to make peace with God and our fellowmen while we have time to do so. The Lord is waiting for us; In th Eucharist He comes to us; we encounter Him in the Word and the Sacrament. Let us go to Him who is waiting for us and accept Him and in Him our brothers and sisters. And we have the assurance: “I am with you until the end of time.

Beautiful Prayer
I asked God to take away my habit.
God said, No.
It is not for me to take away, but for you to give it up.
I asked God to make my handicapped child whole.
God said, No.
His spirit is whole, his body is only temporary.
I asked God to grant me patience.
God said, No.
Patience is a byproduct of tribulations; it isn’t granted, it is learned.
I asked God to give me happiness.
God said, No.
I give your blessing; Happiness is up to you.
I asked God to spare me pain.
God said, No.
Suffering draws you apart from worldly cares and brings you closer to Me.
I asked God to make my spirit grow.
God said, No.
You must grow in your own, but I will prune you to make you fruitful.
I asked God for all things that I might enjoy life.
God said, No.
I will give you life, so that you may enjoy all things.
I ask God to help me LOVE others, as much as He loves me.
God said…Ahhhh, finally you have the idea.
