Third Grade Assessment

Standard One: Demonstrate competency in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities:

3.1.1. Students will balance/transfer weight on a variety of body parts. Criteria: 1) wide base of support 2) tight muscles 3) observe students doing variety of balance/weight transfer activities

3.1.2 Students will demonstrate the skills of chasing, fleeing and dodging to avoid and catch others. Criteria:1) no bumping, tripping, pushing, falling down or bothering others(stay out of others personal space)

3.1.3 Students will demonstrate mature forms of:

a. kicking. Criteria: 1) kick bottom half of ball 2) use shoelaces 3) 20 feet or more

b. throwing. Criteria 1) step with the opposite foot 2) elbow leads arm (overhand) 3) at a target 10 feet or more

c. Catching Criteria: 1) follow eyes 2) reach with hands 3) catch with hands no trapping

3.1.4 Students will perform the components of Fitnessgram. Criteria: 1) see Fitnessgram recommended in book or on DVD 2) Test 20 meter pacer, pushups, curl-ups, sit and reach, trunk lift

3.1.5 Students will perform correct movement pattern jump rope

a. self-turned rope skills Criteria: 1) bend knees, push off balls of feet 2) elbows close to body 3) hands at waist level 4) both feet together 5) goal of 75 forward and 75 backward with 0 misses 6) introduce tricks- crisscross, scissors, straddle

b. long jump rope skills. 1) swing the long rope continuously with partner 2) introduce jumping in to a moving rope

3.1.6 Students will dribble a ball with their hands. Criteria: 1) use fingerpads 2) push ball down 3) ball should stay at waist level 4) eyes up 5)20 feet or more with one hand back with opposite hand maintaining control

3.1.7 Students will dribble a ball with their feet. Criteria: 1) tap the ball with your instep and outside of foot 2) keep the ball close to body 3) eyes up 4) 20 feet or more maintaining control

3.1.8 Students will strike or volley an object using their hands or an implement. Criteria: 1) stiff wrist 2)eyes on target 3)follow through

Standard Two: Demonstrate understanding movement concepts, principals, strategies and tactics as they apply to the learning and performance of physical activities:

3.2.1 Students will identify essential elements of:

a. overhand throw; Criteria 1)eyes on target 2) follow through 3) step with opposite foot

b. catching; Criteria 1) eyes on object 2) reach with hands 3) no trapping against body

c. dribble with hands; Criteria 1) use fingerpads 2) ball at waist level out to the side and slightly in front 3) eyes looking up

d. dribble with feet; Criteria 1)use instep of foot 2) ball close to body 3) eyes looking up

e. kick a ball ; Criteria 1)eyes on the ball 2) kick with shoelaces 3) no stopping or hesitation

f. striking; Criteria 1) eyes on object 2)varies according to implement used ex hands together on a bat

3.2.2 Students will know the guidelines and behaviors for the safe use of equipment and apparatus. Criteria: 1) demonstrate safe use of equipment and apparatus during physical education

3.2.3 Students will know 3 activities that lead to a healthy body and lifestyle. Critieria:

1) examples-running, jump roping, walking, eating healthy etc…

3.2.4 Students will demonstrate the proper form when performing pacer, pushups, curl-ups, trunk lift, sit and reach.

Standard Three: Participates regularly in physical activity:

3.3.1 All students will participate in various forms of physical activity. Criteria: 1) students will participate in moderate to vigorous physical activity and unstructured play.

Standard Four: Achieves and maintains a health-enhancing level of physical fitness:

3.4.1 All students will participate in health-enhancing activities that promote personal physical fitness. Criteria: 1) students will participate in moderate to vigorous physical activity and unstructured play.

Standard Five: Exhibits responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others in physical activity settings:

3.5.1 Students demonstrate safety while participating in physical activity. Criteria: 1) students avoid collisions and maintain control

3.5.2 Students will demonstrate knowledge of good sportsmanship and fair play. Criteria: 1) teacher observes students practicing good sportsmanship and fair play.

3.5.3 Students will demonstrate knowledge of cooperation, sharing and consideration. Criteria: 1) teacher observes students practicing cooperation, sharing and being considerate of others during physical education.

3.5.4 Students will demonstrate self-discipline and responsibility while actively participating in class. Criteria:1) students display good effort and attitude 2) students stay on task 3) students are considerate of others

Standard Six: Values physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression and /or social interaction:

3.6.1 Students will begin to show enjoyment from participation in physical activities. Criteria: 1) students will identify enjoyable activities.
