SENIOR SCOOP

THIRD EDITION

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

  • Get2College FAFSA day is November 3. Your parents can call Mrs. Overbagh in the guidance office to set an appointment. This is by appointment only, and the spots fill up quickly.
  • FAFSA is open now! If you want to do it yourself, you can do it now!
  • Mississippi Scholar applications are due December 15 to Mrs. Chunn. Make sure you have your community service hours listed and verified before returning the application. If you are waiting on Mrs. Harris for Interact hours, note that on the application. Also, be sure Mrs. Harris knows you need those sent.
  • Turn in all scholarship offers to Mrs. Chunn – even if you don’t plan on accepting them. We need to beat the record of $11,000,000.
  • University of Memphis tour is on October 26. Only the first 120 will get to go. If that is one of your possible college choices, you should get your money in right away! We will take up money during both breaks Tuesday, October 11 – Friday, October 14.
  • We will be taking a very small group of seniors to Ole Miss in November. You have to have applied and been accepted to be able to go. If this is something you are interested in, go ahead and apply. Only the first 40 with their money will be able to go. More details on this will be given at a later time.
  • Colored casuals will not be included in this year’s yearbook.
  • Begin researching college choices if you haven’t already started. We have a research worksheet in the guidance office if you need help getting started.
  • Find the financial aid application for the colleges you have applied to, and submit before their deadlines. (This is different from the FAFSA)
  • Create your resume. If you need help getting started, see Mrs. Overbagh or Mrs. Chunn in guidance.
  • Transcript request forms are in the guidance office. Be sure you have applied to the school before requesting a transcript.
  • Apply for scholarships. Check the OBHS website for links to scholarship searches. Also, continually check the scholarship board in the guidance office.
  • Continue planning your finances. Upcoming expenses include college application fees, prom, senior yearbook pages, ACT/SAT fees, T-Shirts, May Day, and Yearbook.
  • English Comp I will be offered here on Tuesdays at 3:00 PM next semester. You will receive 3 hours of college credit for successful completion of the course. The cost is $240 and you must have a 17 on the ENGLISH portion of the ACT. Sign up here following this meeting OR in the guidance office. Hurry! Spots are limited! Mr. T. Nichols is the teacher this year!
  • NorthCentral Electric Power Association Scholarship applications are now available. We have some here today, or you can pick one up in the guidance office. Deadline is March 27.
