4 Typed Pages including the works cited page

12 point Times New Roman font, double-spaced throughout, with standard 1-inch margins.

Proper MLA format

Including your heading, title, page headers, citations, and works cited page.

The MLA format and additional literary research skills are outlined in the back of your Holts Elements of Literature textbook (Page 240 to Page 259) and there are numerous web sites. Only typed papers will be accepted.

A total of 4 sources. One will be Bram Stoker’s Dracula, two must be print sources, and one may be .gov, .edu, org, net, etc.

  • Wikipedia may not be used in your paper.
  • Anything accessed through Power Library or JSTOR counts as a print source

2 citations of any kind are required for each page.

To have a source listed on your works cited page it must be cited in your paper.

What is Literary Criticism?

  • Literary criticism is fundamentally an informed analysis and evaluation of a work of literature.
  • Literary criticism can be applied to novels, short stories, poetry, plays, and essays.

What is a Thesis Statement?

According to the Literature Resource Center, a thesis statement is a declarative sentence which

  • Focuses on one well-defined idea or hypothesis.
  • Makes an arguable assertion; is capable of being supported.
  • Prepares readers for the body of the paper and foreshadows the conclusion.

Assignment: Using the above guidelines, evaluate what you feel is the most important THEME that Stoker was trying to convey in Dracula. Essentially, you are choosing a theme to defend, and using concrete examples from the novel, along with expert opinions, to support your points. The paper must include a clear, well-defined thesis statement that declares the central point supported by the paper. To easily identify the thesis pleaseeither type the thesis statement in bold or underline it.
