Third Creek Elementary School

2011 - 2012 Bus Safety Rules

In an effort to provide the most effective and efficient transportation for your child to and from school every day, we ask that you read the BUS SAFETY RULES below and discuss them with your child.

·  In the event a child chooses not to follow the bus rules, he/she will be given a verbal warning. (By this point, this would be their second verbal warning because ALL students will watch and discuss a bus safety video during the first days of school). However, if a child hits or injures another student, he/she will be suspended from the bus immediately.

·  If the child has received a verbal warning and continues to break a rule, the driver will write him/her up on a Bus Conduct Report. The following day, the child will be sent to the office to discuss the situation with an administrator. Every child is given one written warning (unless a child is hit or injured, then there will be immediate consequences).

·  The second time a child is written up on a Bus Conduct Report, he/she will be suspended from the bus for one day.

·  Future incidents will result in additional days of bus suspension (3, 5, 10, & NO bus privilege) correspondingly.

·  If there is a serious incident where children are injured, several days of bus suspension or school suspension may be assigned by the administrators.

·  Since students are required to attend school during a bus suspension, parents/guardians are responsible for arranging transportation for those days. We realize that this can be an inconvenience, so reinforce the importance of good behavior on the bus to your child.

Bus Safety Rules: (aligned with ISS Board Policy)

1.  Stay seated from the time the bus starts until it comes to your final stop. (Standing, walking in the aisles, crawling under the seats, and changing seats are dangerous to the students and distracting to the driver).

2.  Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself. Arms, hands, and head should be kept inside the bus at all times. No objects should be thrown on or from the bus.

3.  Talk respectfully to others. (No profanity, arguing, talking back (disrespectfully) to the driver, or excessively loud talking).

4.  No fighting at the bus stop or on the bus. Fighting results in immediate bus suspension.

5.  No spitting at the bus stop or on the bus. Spitting results in immediate bus suspension.

6.  No food, drinks, candy, gum, toys, electronic devices, or harmful objects on the bus.

7.  All school rules apply at the bus stop and on the bus.

I have read the Bus Safety Rules and agree to follow them and/or reinforce them as a parent. I understand that if my child chooses not to follow the rules, that he/she could be suspended from the bus.
