February 10 - 12

Theme:
“Valentines”
Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
Leopards are sweet,
And really smart, too!!!

We will be celebrating Valentine’s Day on Wednesday, Feb. 12th in our classroom. Please have your child decorate an old shoe-box or container to bring in for Valentine’s exchange that day. It’s always fun to see the creative ideas everyone has! There are 23 students in our class, so have your child sign their name (who the Valentine is from) but do not put any names on the outside. That makes “delivery” a whole lot easierJ.
Our reading and writing activities (fact vs. opinion) will focus on Valentines.
Letter of the Week:
Vv, Mr. Velvet Vest
(No secret letter sharing due to the short week)

VERY IMPORTANT!!!
If your child brings home a reading book from class (NOT the paper books) it is to be read for homework and returned the next day. I like sending the books because it gives your child practice with what they have read in guided reading that day, but they must be returned as I use the same books with multiple groups. /

Center Parents
Since we have two short weeks coming up, we will not need center parents. Center parent rotation will resume the week of Feb. 24.
Needed Items:
Parents, it’s that time of the year when we need to add a few items to the children’s pencil boxes. Please send in a set of colored pencils (just basic colors, no need for anything fancy) and a hand-held pencil sharpener with a little container that catches the shavings. Thank you!
On a Personal Note: Next week I will not be at school, Monday through Wednesday. I am traveling to Virginia to help my sister for a week. Her husband recently had a heart attack, and she just had foot surgery. Needless to say, she can’t do much and my brother in law doesn’t need the stress of trying to do everything. The Leopards will be in the very capable hands of Roni Levine and Mrs. Reisert in my absence, and I have talked with the children and explained to them why I will be gone for a few short days. Thank you so much for your understanding!
