Gift Shop Manager

Job Description: The Gift Shop Manageris responsible for all operations of the gift shop including, but not limited to: buying, ordering, computer entry, sales, bookkeeping, receiving and displaying merchandise and supervising of employees and volunteers.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitors and controls costs for labor, overtime, supplies, merchandise, and equipment.
  • Manages the accounts receivables and payables for the Gift Shop.
  • Works with accounting department to verify accounts and journal entries.
  • Creates systems for checks and balances for all areas of operation.
  • Participates in markets, trade shows, and other seminars to keep abreast of latest trends in Gift Shop merchandise.
  • Compiles reports and manages projects as requested by Administration.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure smooth operation of the organization.

  • Provides prompt, courteous service to all internal and external customers. Prioritizes and addresses customer needs and demands in a professional manner, providing follow-up and developing cooperative relationships.
  • Identifies opportunities and recommends methods to improve customer service, work processes and financial performance. Assists in design and implementation of quality improvement initiatives on departmental and organizational levels.
  • Assists team members in completion of tasks and assignments to ensure continuity of service. Orient new co-workers and actively support team development.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Educational and/or Professional Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma or GED preferred.

Previous Experience:

1. At least 3 years previous experience with merchandising, buying and marketing, preferably in the area of gift shop items.

2. Must possess good interpersonal, communication and organization skills.

3. Must have good computer skills.

4. Must have artistic talent in displaying merchandise.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:

  • Intermittent sitting and standing.
  • Constant walking.
  • Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, bending, squatting, kneeling, reaching, and twisting.
  • Must be able to see (near and far), hear, talk, have use of right and left hands, have use of both feet for repetitive movement, and have dexterity in fingers.

He/she must be an ambassador to the community for the museum at all times.

Must pass a background check and be fingerprinted.
