Poems by Class 4 Withnell Fold Primary March 2011
These Poems were created using a range of stimuli.
We thought about personification and what sounds various objects would make, we also listened to music, the Anvil Chorus and Handle’s Firework Music.
The other poems were written after looking at pictures of fireworks and lightning.
A big black canon struck with terror the men dropped like dominoes.
Everyone heard the thud of dead soldiers bang against the battle field
All confetti covered streets and roads
A moment of silence then
BANG
The horses gallop with a furious rage
The guns shoot like lightning
in the dark sky.
The vicious enemies waiting to fire
then
A big celebration for the wining team
Kiera Hall
Electric Hunter.
It knows what it wants and it gets what it wants!
It stalks the charcoal sky, searching for prey.
AT LAST it finds its prey.
GRRRR! Its snarl is heard throughout the valley.
QUICKLY!
It grabs its prey and devours it.
Then it munches and crunches it ‘til it is a powder.
It leaves the prey on the ground
It’s waiting for its next victim.

Fireworks
Sparkle sparks scarlet fames
Nibbling away at the rope
Like a lion eating its prey.
Bang like an explosion in the dark
A sack of colours leaping out of the bag
And burning everything in its path
Like a dog being let off its lead.
Slowly the colours fade into the inky black night
Drifting gradually, drifting to the ground

Fireworks
They always meet,
Then boom like giants feet.
Sparklers sparkle like fairy wings,
But these aren’t magic things.
Rockets zoom like racing cars,
Then speedily go to Mars.
Catherine wheels spin like merry-go rounds,
Then slowly start to die.

Hide
It’s a matter of life
Or death...
Lightning tears across the sky,
And great bolt of electricity,
Powers the human race,
Then veins of life streak across the sky,
As the thunder,
Argues with the lightning.
A grand performance,
Is seen from miles around
While splinters of light,
Gush down from the sky,
Splashing down on,
Towns, cities, sea and lakes,
A tormented world,
Rushes to hide.

Kitchen life
The door screamed as it opened wide
The kettle screamed as smoke escaped
The water ran
from the tap and came out with a splash
The salt and pepper shook and mumbled as they shuffled aside the washing machine sang in a watery voice,
O, how the room was alive it really was a fright to hear in the living room at night.

Lightning!
Flashes of colour trying to find paths to the earth,
Blue electricity destroying every thing in its path,
Blue racer,
Spark maker,
Woodland destroyer,
Sky explorer
Earth seeker is its name.
Living thing destroyer is its aim.
Tell me the name of this troublesome villain.
Its name is lightning!

Screaming for life
By Megan Cartwright
Elephants falling and
Stomping through the sky,
Drums beating for help
As violins scream for life
The big brass band
Stamping from street to street
As welcoming trumpets
Shout with laughter.
The happiness is too much
To hold on to
As cannons let their fires loose
The race to Earth
“Crash” Lightning sprinted quickly
Towards Earth, racing his friend Thunder, Lightning knocked over a tree in anger,
Thunder always got there first.
Because his friend Thunder had won again,
He was very angry.
In the distance the Firework family
Were putting on a show,
Their bright colours piercing the night sky,
One after the other “hiss, hiss, hiss”
Then “bang, bang, bang”
Like angry snakes hissing,
Blowing up in a rage,
Lightning reappeared angrily
His friend always beat him to Earth.
He tried to race him once more
But Thunder still beat him, he always did.

What is it like onthe front line?
As I walk in to the muddy trenches
I get my trusty gun out,
Press the trigger down as far as I can.
“Bang” my gun fired
As men fell like dominoes
One by one
More and more,
An enemy came into the trench
I got the end of my gun
“Stab”
Blood was pouring out everywhere
I got out of the trench
Firing like mad
Bullet after bullet
“Bang”
I was hit,
I was dead.

White cracks
White cracks,
In the sky.
Strike Earth,
With explosive force,
Destroying everything,
In its path.
Burning trees,
To a crisp.
Tiny slits,
Appear in the sky.
So bright,
So white.
White cracks,
In the sky,
Strike Earth,
With explosive force,
Destroying everything,
In its path.
Lightning!

Bonfire Night
Exploding fireworks
Shooting into the sky
The fireworks burst into the sky
On a cloudy night
Fireworks come flying into the sky
The fireworks scream as they were exploding
They go up and then bang
The Rockets come up shooting
Like an aeroplane setting off into the night.
As the people said “How amazing is that?”
And the fireworks sparkle up into the world.
But children say” Wow how amazing!” to their parents
But it was wicked that fireworks burst into the sky.

Fire works
Golden lights go
Twirling round,
Up until the moon
Goes down.
Catherine wheels go
Spinning round,
Faster faster all around.
Zooming high up
In the sky.
Bright light oh my.
Tiana Fear
Fireworks poem
Multicoloured flashes that make a big boom
Pouring sparks with gorgeous colours
Fabulous colours with a fantastic view
Entertained viewers with sparkling sparklers

Flash
The lightning splits
I run
It chases
I hide
It finds me
Another bang
Another flash
Another hit
It stops
I stop
It vanishes
I do too
By Nina Fahey
Is that what happened in the war?
He had entered, with his beady eyes staring…
Men had dropped like dominos one after the other.
The war was over!
Could you hear any sound?
The happiness was too much to hold onto!
The love had spread.
Happiness was everywhere.
It had BEGUN!
The trumpets sang to the beat of their friends,
A BANG of life sent the world into joy!
The bell twinkled.
But it was time to stop,
The sun went down and the moon up.
And did you know that’s what happened in the war?
I bet you didn’t.

Lightning
The yellow bolts fly through the night,
Creating a magnificent picture,
Their wonderful arms stretch down to earth,
Snatching the star-gazers eye
The lightning steals the show of the night,
Thundering down, touching our planet,
Finding the easiest way to enter the human world
Aaron Farrimond
Lightning Strike
There are all sorts of flashes of light.
They come in different colours sometimes zig-zagging
down towards the earth.
A camera light spears into your eyes with a feisty glare.
A lightning bolt reaches out to a tree with its sparky hands.
The bolts fall down like dominoes
their roots sticking out
as they crackle angrily.
The fireworks race up to the sky
in a blizzard of colours and sparks.

The House of Nightmares
The fire faints with weakness
The father sighs and grudgingly walks out the door
And looks for firewood,
The little girl cries,
To be alone in her house of nightmares,
The door creaks
And in glides a sly wolf
He licks his lips and smirks
The little girl quivers and makes herself as small as possible
The wolf prowls,
Until the two are staring into each others eyes.
The wolf’s bright orange cat-like eyes
Imprison the little girls gaze.
Suddenly the door slams shut and the wolf disappears.
Shadows of her past dance around her
“Ma, don’t leave me…”
The Shadows scratch down her face
Causing blood to flow like a river
So all alone, the little girl dies
In her house of nightmares
The father returns
An armload of wood with him,
He freezes and falls to the ground
Outside a river weeps
And a ghostly pale little girl sits by it….

THE WAR
The cannon bombs called through the midnight silence,
Hushing all that was once joy and laughter.
The tanks wail into the midnight darkness being forced toshout out
Against the happiness in the midnight air
Troops cry and cry sending out
What remains of the power
In their little weary bodies
By Daniel Dolderson
What happens in a battlefield.
The horses gallop,
With a furious rage
Towards the enemies grasp,
The cannon fires causing
Terror to strike
The cavalry pour in with swords
Charging to their enemies,
Guns fire with a great clap of thunder
And arrows block the sun,
With a black sheet covering the sky,
Soldiers move in ready to approach
Their prey, waiting on the other side,
Horses follow their master’s command,
Knowing the consequences,
The order is given
The soldiers stand at arms
And
Prepare for war.
That’s what happens in a battle field.
