We arrived at Oppiekoppie to blue skies, a light wind from the west and temperatures that soared to over 30C by midday.
THE FISHING WAS GOOD, 110 FISH WERE WEIGHED. MANY FISH WERE RELEASED BEFORE BEING BROUGHT TO THE WEIGH STATION.

The orange hi-lite means they did not attend the league and they achieved maximum 'strafpunte'. Blue hilte means they moved from one league to the other.
NB: The lower the 'strafpunt' the better the position.

The first league was a great success. Our juniors are really fishing well. I would love to put some of these kids against a senior team and see what happens!
It was good to see two species coming out at Oppiekoppie that we have not seen for a long time, namely Ghillies and Vleis.
The Blues that came out were all big fish - largest was 0,690kg caught by Brendan J.V.Rensburg. The Bass were willing early in the morning as is the way of bass, the largest of 0,905kg was caught by Damon Nell. The Carp were in fantastic condition ,the largest weighed 0,240kg caught by Ian Bergsma. The Vlei Kurper were a surprise addition, the largest weighed 0,085kg caught by Thomas Norman.Dwarf Kurper were plentiful and aggressive as always. Mosquitoes were few and far between but they became aggressive as the day warmed up.
The bass were caught on Hornets and soft plastics. One very nice bass was taken on a tiny blob of Powerbait. Most of the other fish were taken on Curly tails and Powerbait.
A great big thank you to the senior anglers who gave up their day to coach the Juniors. It was very gratifying to see these guys working diligently with their development kids; some accelerated learning took place.
Lunch was served 20 minutes early because an errant car alarm (hooter) summoned everyone before the 'sameroeper' could hoot his car alarm to notify all that the food was ready. Fortunately most of the wors was already cooked and everyone enjoyed a great meal.
The Prize-giving went off well and every child who participated went home with at least one prize. The top anglers in each league received gift vouchers for Solly's anglers Corner. Thank you to Rudolph for handing out the prizes and Andre for taking the photos.
Thank you to Piera Biccard who did such a sterling job at the weigh in table. To Parrish Genricks who verified the score sheets, thank you. Thanks also to Derek Nell, Parrish Genricks and Craig Wixley who assisted with the braaing, preparing the rolls and feeding the masses.
