Food truck Wars

Overview

The class will break up and each will design their own Food Truck company At the end, each group will present their food truck company to the class. (or each student will design their own Food Truck company)

There are 6 main components to this project:

  • Your basic concept and information
  • Your Business Plan
  • Your website and other social media outlets
  • Your menu presentation
  • The model of your truck on display

Please have fun and creativity is encouraged!

Part 1: Basics

  1. Food Truck Name
  2. Find your niche!
  3. Healthy foods
  4. Unique cupcakes
  5. Foreign dishes
  6. Gastropub creations
  7. Gelato
  8. Organic
  9. Logo/Design
  10. Do you have a specific theme?
  11. A color scheme that relates directly to your food?
  12. Logo/design can be:
  13. Drawn/sketched on paper
  14. Created online and printed out
  15. Physical/3D representation
  16. Slogan/tag line for your company
  17. A catchy phrase for your customers to know you by
  18. Menu (from lesson 2)
  19. 3-6 menu items
  20. Include prices
  21. Create appealing, short descriptions of each dish
  22. Does your menu have a name?
  23. Pictures are optional (MUST have photos for final portfolio)
  24. Demographics
  25. What city and state will you be operating in?
  26. What are the popular food trucks that are already in your location?
  27. Research your city:
  28. Do they require a health department certificate?
  29. Truck permits?
  30. Parking restrictions?
  31. Truck dimensions
  32. Any required equipment in the truck?
  33. Etc.

Part 2: Business Plan

  1. Introduction/Overview
  2. Introduce your company and idea
  3. Be brief, don’t give away your whole plan in the introduction
  4. What will you sell?
  5. Who will buy it?
  6. Location?
  7. Company vision and mission statement
  8. State your mission and vision
  9. Explain how your company got started
  10. List some short and long term goals
  11. What is the main reason people will want to come to you? Best wings? Freshest smoothies?
  12. Give a brief description of the food truck industry as it pertains to your city
  13. Ka-ching!
  14. What will you charge?
  15. How will you make money? Catering, events, etc.
  16. Describe your products and services
  17. Hustling
  18. How will customers learn about your food truck?
  19. How can you encourage referrals?
  20. Will you have any specials or coupons? (Groupon, LivingSocial, etc.)
  21. Who are your major competitors?
  22. Any specific marketing strategy? Park by a college -> be open for late night menus
  23. How will you be different from competitors?
  24. Operations
  25. Any legal or government issues in your state or city?
  26. Any specific policies for customers? ($5 minimum, etc.)
  27. Describe your location in detail and where you plan on parking
  28. Where will you keep your truck at night?
  29. Conclusion
  30. Describe why you think/know your food truck will be successful
  31. List any strengths and weaknesses and how you can overcome your weaknesses

Part 3: Design Food Truck

Designing Your Own Food Truck:

Option 1: Design a Food Truck using the Paper Template

Option 2 : Draw your own template of a Food Truck.

Option 3: Use any materials they would like to design your unique food truck. (Example: cereal boxes, shoe boxes, soda bottles, Styrofoam cups)

Requirements:

1. Be Creative & Unique

2. Must place window/where there food will be served out of

3. Display menu (be creative)

4. Display name of food truck

Part 4: Presentations

  • Viewers will be rating your Food Truck presentation. There will be a prize for First Place in each class 
