Food truck Wars
Overview
The class will break up and each will design their own Food Truck company At the end, each group will present their food truck company to the class. (or each student will design their own Food Truck company)
There are 6 main components to this project:
- Your basic concept and information
- Your Business Plan
- Your website and other social media outlets
- Your menu presentation
- The model of your truck on display
Please have fun and creativity is encouraged!
Part 1: Basics
- Food Truck Name
- Find your niche!
- Healthy foods
- Unique cupcakes
- Foreign dishes
- Gastropub creations
- Gelato
- Organic
- Logo/Design
- Do you have a specific theme?
- A color scheme that relates directly to your food?
- Logo/design can be:
- Drawn/sketched on paper
- Created online and printed out
- Physical/3D representation
- Slogan/tag line for your company
- A catchy phrase for your customers to know you by
- Menu (from lesson 2)
- 3-6 menu items
- Include prices
- Create appealing, short descriptions of each dish
- Does your menu have a name?
- Pictures are optional (MUST have photos for final portfolio)
- Demographics
- What city and state will you be operating in?
- What are the popular food trucks that are already in your location?
- Research your city:
- Do they require a health department certificate?
- Truck permits?
- Parking restrictions?
- Truck dimensions
- Any required equipment in the truck?
- Etc.
Part 2: Business Plan
- Introduction/Overview
- Introduce your company and idea
- Be brief, don’t give away your whole plan in the introduction
- What will you sell?
- Who will buy it?
- Location?
- Company vision and mission statement
- State your mission and vision
- Explain how your company got started
- List some short and long term goals
- What is the main reason people will want to come to you? Best wings? Freshest smoothies?
- Give a brief description of the food truck industry as it pertains to your city
- Ka-ching!
- What will you charge?
- How will you make money? Catering, events, etc.
- Describe your products and services
- Hustling
- How will customers learn about your food truck?
- How can you encourage referrals?
- Will you have any specials or coupons? (Groupon, LivingSocial, etc.)
- Who are your major competitors?
- Any specific marketing strategy? Park by a college -> be open for late night menus
- How will you be different from competitors?
- Operations
- Any legal or government issues in your state or city?
- Any specific policies for customers? ($5 minimum, etc.)
- Describe your location in detail and where you plan on parking
- Where will you keep your truck at night?
- Conclusion
- Describe why you think/know your food truck will be successful
- List any strengths and weaknesses and how you can overcome your weaknesses
Part 3: Design Food Truck
Designing Your Own Food Truck:
Option 1: Design a Food Truck using the Paper Template
Option 2 : Draw your own template of a Food Truck.
Option 3: Use any materials they would like to design your unique food truck. (Example: cereal boxes, shoe boxes, soda bottles, Styrofoam cups)
Requirements:
1. Be Creative & Unique
2. Must place window/where there food will be served out of
3. Display menu (be creative)
4. Display name of food truck
Part 4: Presentations
- Viewers will be rating your Food Truck presentation. There will be a prize for First Place in each class
