You can use materials that range from household products to natural objects

Lesson Plan:

1.  Students will be given an opportunity to do research on the importance of the Episcopal chapel. You can provide them with the above link.

2.  Students will need to do a research paper on Episcopal churches and then present their findings to the classroom.

3.  Students will need to create a replica of the St. Augustine’s Church Chapel using their creativity. They will need to include the Red Door and the Lynch Gate.

4.  Here are two important facts that students will need to include in their reports:

a.  They will need to include what the historical chapel houses (Bishop’s chair, an antique piece purchased in France as a memorial of Delany’s consecration).

b.  What does the Red Door symbolize? It is a symbol of refuge and sanctuary for all people who entered; also signified the blood of Christ that had been shed so that all who came to him could be saved.

Evaluation and Assessment:

1.  Here is a suggested rubric to help guide formal and informal assessment of student knowledge and abilities.
