*Morning Prayer (unison)

Almighty God, merciful Father, out of the depths we cry to you. Let your ears be attentive to our cry for mercy. If you, O Lord, kept a record of sins, who could stand? But with you there is forgiveness. Merciful Father, we have placed our hope in people who cannot save, in promises that cannot deliver and in pleasures that will never satisfy. Today we put our hope in the Lord, for with the Lord is unfailing love and with him is full redemption. In Jesus’ name we put our hope! Amen.

“From Heaven Above”

Martin Luther

From heav’n above to earth I come

to bear good news to ev’ry home;

Glad tidings of great joy I bring,

whereof I now will say and sing:

To you this night is born a child

of Mary, chosen virgin mild;

This little child of lowly birth

shall be the joy of all the earth.

This is the Christ, our God Most High,

who hears your sad and bitter cry;

He will himself your Savior be

from all your sins to set you free.

He will on you the gifts bestow

prepared by God for all below,

That in his kingdom, bright and fair,

you may with us his glory share.

“The Holly and The Ivy”

Brtitish Folk Carol

The holly and the ivy,
When they are both full grown,
Of all trees that are in the wood,
The holly bears the crown:

Refrain: O, the rising of the sun,
And the running of the deer
The playing of the merry organ,
Sweet singing in the choir.
The holly bears a blossom,
As white as lily flow'r,
And Mary bore sweet Jesus Christ,
To be our dear Saviour: Refrain
The holly bears a berry,
As red as any blood,
And Mary bore sweet Jesus Christ,
To do poor sinners good: Refrain
The holly bears a prickle,
As sharp as any thorn,
And Mary bore sweet Jesus Christ,
On Christmas Day in the morn: Refrain
The holly bears a bark,
As bitter as the gall,
And Mary bore sweet Jesus Christ,
For to redeem us all: Refrain
