- This theme is explored through the character of Fiona. Fiona at first was very judgemental of Shrek’s appearance when she first saw him when removed his helmet. When she saw him she said, “Oh you’re an ogre…this is all wrong ..you’re not supposed to be an ogre…” In this scene there is a close-up shot on Shrek’s face to show us his emotion and how sad and hurt he felt.
- Both Shrek and Donkey are judging Fiona when she starts to demonstrate ‘un-princess’ like qualities. For example in the scene …Here panning was used to show the viewer the facial expressions from Shrek to Fiona.
- At the wedding scene when Fiona turns into an ogre Lord Farquaad wants to return her to the castle. Here he is judging Fiona because of her appearance. Zooming is used here to show Fiona’s transformation into an ogre to which Lord Farquaad wants to send her to the castle. This is in complete contrast to when he first glimpses on Fiona in the magic mirror and wishes to marry her simply because of her ‘beauty’ and to become king. He needed to marry a princess to become more powerful.
