Honor: The Secret Ingredient to Family Life Live Seminar

Peace, NJ — Helping children grow up to be responsible, healthy adults in today’s society can be quite difficult but there are some secrets that can make it easier. That’s what Christ Church believes and they are holding a live parenting seminar to help parents in the community.

On Saturday November 1, Dr. Scott Turansky and Joanne Miller, RN, BSN will present their parenting seminar entitled, “Honor: The Secret Ingredient for Family Life.” The teaching helps parents solve the real problems they’re facing right now. Parents will leave the seminar with new tools they can put into practice as soon as they get home.

The material they’re sharing comes from their book, “Say Goodbye to Whining, Complaining, and Bad Attitudes, in You and Your Kids.” “It’s a book about honor,” says Dr. Turansky. “Most parents, when they think of honor, teach their kids good manners or about showing respect, but it’s much more than that. It’s a heart response of genuinely valuing others. In fact, we say that if you want your kids to fly straight, teach them obedience. If you want them to fly high, then teach them honor.”

Honor addresses issues such as sibling conflict, disrespect, bad attitudes. In fact, Mrs. Miller loves this material. She says, “it’s the anti-selfishness curriculum for kids. When children learn honor they practice thinking about others and adding energy to family life instead of draining it. Parents love it when their children come home with a new vision for adding energy to family life.”

“Too many parenting seminars give vague, general principles that we all know like, ‘be consistent,’ ‘follow through on what you say,’ or ‘don’t be so angry with your kids.’ We’re going to help parents know how to do those things in very practical ways,” says, Bob Smith, children’s director at Christ Church.

This seminar will also have time for questions and answers so come prepared to get specific solutions for your parenting challenges.

A complete children’s program is also provided for children 0-12. “This isn’t just babysitting. We’re teaching the children material that complements what the adults are learning,” says Smith. Crafts, activities, stories, and games teach children how they can get along in family life more effectively. Older children are encouraged to sit in with the adults and learn these important tools about bringing customer service into their homes.

The cost of the seminar is $25 per person or $35 per couple. There is no charge for the children’s program.

Dr. Turansky and Joanne Miller are the founders of the National Center for Biblical Parenting. They say, "We give parents a toolbox full of ideas so that moms and dads can look at problems like lying, annoying behavior, and defiance as opportunities for teaching instead of feeling like they’re in a torture chamber."
